My Battlegrounds Gaming Engine virtual tabletop software is currently free to use, fully unlocked, in case anyone wants to take it for a test drive and perhaps port some of your favorite boardgames to it.
For those not familiar with BGE, it's similar in intent/purpose to apps like Vassal and ZunTzu, and lets you both play games live (online or offline) and create digital game conversions of your own. Games you create are easily distributed, should you desire to. No PBEM support at this time, sorry.
There's a video tutorial that walks you through the entire process of porting a game to BGE. The process is really quite simple, and BGE should prove to be an empowering toolkit for those who have had no luck trying to create their own game modules in other virtual tabletop apps.
Here's a Pinterest gallery of some of the game conversions I've made for BGE, though others are also available.
I invite everyone who fancies playing boardgames, wargames, card games, and/or dice games on a computer to try the program out and see if they'd like it.
PS: Although Mac support was initially available for BGE, changes to Mac OS X in recent years mean my software is no longer Mac-compatible (unless you're one of the few holdouts still running a pre-Lion version of OS X). So BGE is now Windows-only until v2 can be developed, which will be fully Mac compatible and Intel-native.
This promo is happening again, for the next 24 days or so. Take BGE for a spin, play a few games, and then maybe make your own digital game conversion (module) after watching the video tutorial on the BG site.
