OCS: Overrun or Combat in the Combat Phase?

but have a question re overrun Options.

well I just did some serious combats in Burma End of May time frame.

Got some serious results.

The attackers...Chinese (1st mistake) and Allies (attacked 2nd from reserve) got their asses handed to them..direct assault on 2nd tier hedgehog even DG'ed = bad.

attempting to encircle by attacking weaker adjacent units and encircling...= bad too. 

Thats 14 T of supply blown in two offensive weeks. 7 brigades lost for the loss of 2 Japanese Bns....Myit is looking a loooong way away right about now. Now rainy season is right around the corner. Meanwhile in the west the Japanese are sitting accumulating supply, bringing back on thier replacements for round 2. 

Something tells me this could end up a Japanese major victory unless I crack the offensive code here.

Burma is less about combat and more about infiltration. The terrain is great for defense and terrible for attacking units. Also, supply is always a problem. I find it a fascinating game because it is so different from the usual East Front OCS games.  

yes. my experience is not translating well to EF.

I found the solo play terrible...."I'm pretending to head this way"..."shhh pay no attention little white British man."  LOL.

In the west I felt compelled to attack as Chinese and Brits, to move road a long and get to Myit.  There was no go around!

One trick you can use with a German Panzer Division or a Soviet Mech Corps is to create a combined arms group (tank bn + mech/tracked infantry). If eligible hip shoot the target so you can lower its AR and insure a higher odds combat. Unless its critical I don't overrun unless I DG the target. I very seldom use just an assault gun. Also, infantry overruns can be effective in opening holes.
