Thought I'd share this dilemma. The scenario starts on July 18, a few days before Cobra’s historical start. I guess so that players can adjust their lines, regroup and re-stock. 19th Corps is still in an Operation to secure St Lô (did it have a name historically?) and so must make a least two attacks this turn.

So I decided to keep going – What if Bradley had pushed 19th Corps on rather than pause and switch the offensive to 7th Corps?

Well its now the start of turn 3 (July 20th) and thanks to plenty of air power and some lucky rolls I've broken through dramatically south of St Lô and pushed reserves 2nd and 3rd Armored into the gap:

(Note how the Vire river effectively cuts the front into two sectors, and if 19th go for the sea 7th gets pinched out and the right flank gets very extended. If 7th goes for the sea its not in an operation and can't use reserves)

Support levels are low, 19th Corps is extended and the Germans have a few reserves. With 2nd SS ready to cover the tip of the spearhead progress depends on how quickly 19th Corps’s infantry, tank destroyers and supplied artillery can get forward. The options are:

1. Consolidate 2nd Armored and 3rd Armored, roll up the left flank of 5th Panzer army. Safe but not very ambitious.

2. Push 2nd Armored and 3rd Armored ahead and see if the Germans will risk mounting strong counter-attacks that might also disrupt 2nd SS’s stacks  - which would be the end of 7th Army’s last reserve. High risk for both sides.

3. Begin to shut down 19th Corps’s offensive, drive 7th Corps  into the gaps appearing and try to pocket 84 Corps. But can the Americans continue to keep the Germans off balance while supplies are so short?

Ironically while Cobra started slowly and then became irresistible, this offensive has started very dramatically and now has to retain momentum.
