Good ideas Mark. I have seen some like this on the net. One in New York where they rented a Brooklyn apartment.
That is way I am saying 2016.2017, it will take that long to get the grants..find a place ect..
The QLD Gaming Grants, need a few things I am looking into (eg. ABN).
If it were just a game day at a hall. no big deal, very easy...
However I want to cater for the 20h + games. I know I like them.
So either you make the games mobile like they do for AWAW at WBC (magnetic tape on baords )
You need a room with a lock up.
The one I liked in Seattle USA. was a vacant shop in an older small shopping center. They had made a big timber rack to hold games between plays. it could house 10 game the size of Empires in Arms. Each had pad lock. Membership was $50, visitors $5 and that paid for cleaning the toilet ect. A city grant helped with the rent. Each member had a key to the shop and different keys to lockers. It's like a "mens shed" ! (actually there are grants for that too!)
I was looking at the Slack Creek Community hall and the South Side game and Sports club (upper mt gravatt) online last night.
It's a pity we don't have a game store like we used to have with Tony's Napoleons Book shop in the 1970's/
I have started mentioning the idea to gamers in my group. Some interest, I think we need to get to a more concrete proposal before some will take much notice.
I am back in Brisbane, Australia in May.
I will set up a meet up. to discuss.
I should be back in Brisbane in 2016 for good.
If you guys from the future-SEQ club are planning to do a mini-con (3 days, but with small number of people), I will be happy to drop in from Canberra :)
Hello Lads, well that's 4 of us - where to from here? I am going to state the obvious here and suggest we all spread the word about the proposed group- I guess then we plan to meet face to face and toss a few ideas around and see if we can get a bit of momentum going etc - your thoughts please. Mark L
An SEQ wargamers club has my interest. Being able to find the players, time and space for larger games would be great. I am Bayside so the Springwood area would work for me.
