Chicago SW Suburbs Wargamers

Information

Chicago SW Suburbs Wargamers

A group for people in the Chicago South West suburbs focused on getting together for wargames and learning wargames.

There seems to be a low amount of wargamers in that area and some that do not want to drive north that much. This group is to primarily meet, greet and learn where fellow wargamers in your area are. Focusing on wargames more than casual boardgaming.

This group is primarily focused on Joliet, Plainfield, Downers Grove, Westmont, Naperville and the like. There are three game stores in the area that offer gaming spaces: Fair Game, Wandering Dragon (very crowded) and Top Cut Gaming. Most are located in or around Plainfield and right off of I-55.

People also have space in their homes if you are looking for more one on one play. Lets get the focus off of just meeting in stores and onto meeting new friends!

Hi all. What are some of your favorite games as far as time period? I have to say right now I am on a moderate Revolutionary War/Musket and Pike kick. Continue

The Joliet Group (mentioned on 11/30/17 below) did a 5-player Genesis yesterday.  Fun, and lots of back-stabbing. The Assyrians won a slim victory over the Egyptians, Mitianni and Babylonians.  Sea People over-ran the capital of the hapless Hittites, who finished a distant 5th.

To follow up what Joseph said, I really enjoy gaming with our small group. We have a good time and the company is enjoyable. The competition is both serious and good natured. We take turns selecting the game to be played each month... Genesis by GMT is on tap.

Somewhat. Some of us get together once a month at my house for some FTF game fun. There is some FTF, one on one, but this is set up by the individuals themselves. Nothing formal here.

Hi, are you guys still active? I live in Aurora, IL. Looking for someone to play FTF

Hi Folks

I live in Downers and am looking for more FtF play. My "owned" list on BGG is pretty up-to-date to see what I get around to playing.

Bloody April is a favorite right now (July 2013), but also particularly enjoy Conflict of Heroes. Been trying to get into the Grand Tactical Series for awhile now (Where Eagles Dare)

Going retro, I like 2nd Fleet quite a bit.

Usually up for most anything from GMT as a starting point.

I usually play VASSAL but have been looking for more FtF play. The local stores don't have much in the way of a wargaming scene.

I used to run Memoir '44 (now out of favor with me) events at Fair Game. And did a big Conflict of Heroes event at Wandering Dragon about a year ago. I don't care for the big, active store for wargaming though.

I could play at my place in Downers if it was a game we could complete in a day. Right now I don't have the best space/set-up for playing and leaving something up. Hoping that will change down the line. :)

Cheers!
