RoundCon 2011 is coming up in October of this year, I am hoping to put a multi-race Formula D/De tournament together. If I can get enough interest I will be able to convince the convention management to allow me as the board game coordinator to make this a traditional event. I need the help from the gamers out there to make this happen.

@Charles - How does Combat Commander and Commands and Colors Ancients sound? As the board game coordinator I am looking at CC, CC:A, Formula D/De, Puerto Rico and probably Catan as the board game offerings.

My 4-yr old is developing an interest in the game closet, and a couple of days ago asked to play "the racing game" (De, which happens to be stored at 4-yr old eye level).  I pulled it out and we played a much stripped down version--basically, just using the dice to gear up and down (no braking, wear, etc.).  If you didn't stop often enough in the turns you "crashed", which meant sitting out two turns and starting at the point you crashed at low gear.  He seemed to catch on and enjoy himself (our previous "race" board game was a cribbage board--roll dice, move the pegs around the track).  Of course, he's now playing Ticket to Ride on the iPad all by himself (and winning), so I'm not surprised he can catch on to kid-variant De....

No but I am planning on offering Formula D/De at RoundCon :)

Hoping to get enough players to have a full field of cars for a three race schedule :)

D is De with some added non F1 rules. I myself prefer the F1 rules side of D. I own most of the original De tracks and would absolutely love to put together a championship series if I could find enough drivers to make it happen.

Lot s of tracks available at BoardGameGeek. But they aren't cheap. Which ones are available fluctuates, so you may have to check bak a few times, but pretty much all of them come up sooner or later.

The originals are only available used. New ones are coming out.

Unfortunately only 1 other guy showed up to play games yesteray so he and I played Monaco twice and Sebring tiwce. I won both Monaco races going away and we split the Sebring races. He crashed out on the first Sebring race and on the second one I blew it in the last corner by not making the turn and having to do an extreme downshift to avoid overshooting by too much and crashing out.

I still love Formula De/D wish we had more locals who could get into a championship series. I would love to challenge myself against a full field of 9 others and do the whole qualifying and 3 lap race thing over 16 races to see who is the best.
