AWAW certainly has a learning curve! There is a very active on-line community for it though which is where much of the gaming goes on (I for one usually get only one ftf game in every year or two most its all on-line). With the Yahoo! group it is fairly easy to find a mentor and learn the ropes via Warplanner (on-line PBEM tool), which again is how I and others I know became acquainted with it. So URLs below:
www.warplanner.com -- PBEM
www.aworldatwar.org -- on-line rules, player aides, ULTRA articles, etc.
http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/aworldatwar/info -- AWAW Yahoo group
Hope this proves helpful and happy gaming!
From some comments I have read here and elsewhere, this seems like a daunting game to tackle. I just bought the newest version from GMT. I have played EiA a number of times but never to the end. Some players dropped out, etc. I tried playing online and it was even worse with payers not sending moves or dropping out. But when it was ftf, it was a hoot! I quite enjoyed the game. I wonder how it compares to AWAW? I have a feeling playing it will be a chore here too. I live in the mountains and there is NO ONE around who plays anything but cards :( I am hoping for a decent online play once I learn the ropes.
