Hey Thomas. I knew a guy from Staten Island who reenacted too, with the 3rd Alabama. Quite a few years back in the 1980's. My two friends and I still play weekly on Staten Island. We play 3dog and I have been trying AAR reports hourly on my blog on this site. I have Gringo set up solo and would like to try Dead of Winter though it is very large and in my immediate area of New Jersey there are no players I know of that are ACW fans. Bob and I are playing Pursuit of Glory but an inservice on GBACW rules would be a big undertaking for him. You are way out in Long Island so that makes things difficult. You got any suggestions? I do have basement space for the required DoW maps.

I just played my first GBACW scenario, Molino del Rey from Gringos. I have some questions:

Can (or for that matter, *must*) a unit change facing when it Retreats? And what if it is attacked from the flank or rear and Retreats? Which way does it then face?

If the bottom unit in a stack Withdraws, thereby triggering Withdrawal Fire from an adjacent enemy, who takes the casualties, the bottom unit that is withdrawing or the one that was on top?

Why do the Fire tables go up to 14+, given that the maximum strength that can fire out of a single hex is 7 (or 12 for small arms artillery)?

Can a unit fire only part of its strength? For example, if two 5-strength units are stacked together, can the top one fire 5 and the bottom one fire 2? Or would they have to fire 4 and 3? Or does the bottom unit not fire at all?

If the Shock result is Stalemate (or Bloody Stalemate) BUT the defender ends up Routing, can the attacker advance into the now vacant hex?

In Molino del Rey, how does the artillery on each side activate? Are they a separate brigade?

In Molino, I am giving the Mexican brigades 2 (or 3) activations each per turn, as their chits are drawn. Is this correct, or should I be subtracting an activation to account for all of the brigadiers being out of command (meaning that in effect, each Mexican brigade will only activate once per turn)?

Thanks in advance.

John Alsen has posted in the CSW GBACW folder the latest version of the series rules for review. I strongly encourage folks to take advantage of this unique opportunity to help cleanup anything that remains unclear or is error.
