Maybe I can help.  Forgot to include my email with my PM to you.  Contact me via my CSW mail, I'll see what I can do.

Anyone have a suggestion to overlay on offset square grid over something like a GoodEarth image?

Thanks,

Robert

I've started the process of designing the scenarios for my game.  It seemed to me that they represent the intersection of the counters and the map.  To make it easier, I put together a program that allows me to add elements representing the counters to a map facsimile on a form and tag them with the map, date and time.

When complete, I'll be able to "playback" the counter positions dynamically and use this information to define the starting positions at any given point in the battle (along with unit strengths, formation and disruption).

I had hoped to use an existing program like Vassal or Cyberboard, but they were way too complex for me.

What does everyone else do?  Do you print out maps and counters and set them up physically?

Yeah. Fire in the lake pieces. Green and Red. Gee, a good % of the male pop is red-green colorblind. The NLF could very easily have been black.

Just stumbled across this article about Cindy Brewer and some of the innovative things she's doing in map design: http://www.wired.com/2014/10/cindy-brewer-map-design/

Rusted Dice,

I was actually ahead of you by a few years, and made up blank mapsheets as pdf files.  Most adhere to the old West End Games patter, and one is compatible with Advanced Squad Leader, MBT/IDF and Firepower.  You can buy them here:
