I don’t know if any of you are familiar with DaveCon, an annual gaming convention in Okemos, MI (http://www.lansingboardgamers.com/DaveCon). DaveCon is run by a member of Lansing Boardgamers, and is essentially a Euro-only convention that runs September 6 and 7 this year.

I have been working on getting some heavier games into the convention, including some cross-over Eurogames/wargames. This year I am running three:

Cuba Libre
Bios: Megafauna
Terra Incognita (my prototype New World exploration game).

After mentioning to friends that I was running these games, the gamer grapevine revealed a few wargamers who expressed an interest in coming out to Okemos to play one or more of those games. It occurred to me that DaveCon might be a good venue to bring some Michigan Wargamers together and establish ourselves as a community.

(Note that I am not affiliated with running DaveCon — but there is always plenty of space and it is fairly conveniently located for most of us in the state).

So I thought I would reach out to potential wargamers (and near-wargamers) on Consimworld and Boardgamegeek to see if anyone is interested in coming to the con, even if only for a day.

To that end, I have created a Google Group (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/wargaming-at-davecon) to allow people to look for opponents for games they want to get to the table. I am pretty eclectic in my tastes myself, so if there is something you want to play, chances are I will play it with you (subject to my existing commitments).

I think good games for this venue are multiplayer games (COIN games, for example), and shorter card-driven games (such as Twilight Struggle), but the con runs the whole weekend so there’s no reason people couldn’t try something even meatier.

I also am hoping that this allow us to find more opponents around the state. Who knows — maybe next year we can convince Dave to make wargames an official part of the DaveCon schedule!

Cheers,
Scott

I'm out of town on the 7th. Pretty bummed out that I'll miss WinterCon this year as well. I'll see what I can do to attend on of the BLOC meetings and keep you posted.

Mark, do you guys have any dedicated game days? I would be interested in playing Command and Colors.
