Nostalgia About Yankees Non-Excellence
The Yankees won the World Series again. Love them or hate them, the Yanks have one of the greatest traditions in any professional sport, one in which winning is the norm rather than the exception. Add to that a procession of individual excellence, from Babe Ruth to the current crop of Yankees.
If a Red Sox or Pirates fan has to have some respect for Yankee tradition, even through the inevitable boos.
But one Yankee really stands out for complete suckitude. The suckeist Yankee of them all happens to one of the most reviled Pirates of all time.
Meet Dale Berra
What the article doesn't mention is that he was an excellent hockey player, who could have had a great career with the NHL, and it doesn't fully capture the depths of his cocaine abuse. Nor the the toll that it took upon his talent as well as his life.
