One played one turn - 31 MAR 45 - Station 3 - USS Mafiaffa
Morning - 6 planes attacked - one special attack -
One Betty bomber at 6 -high got though and I rolled a 35 - 22 - which caused no damage.
The special attack - Bomb - caused a near miss, and no damage. The special attack plane - D3A - Val was not hit and caused a near miss and caused 1 hull point to be marked off. All other planes SD

Midday - 8 planes attack - one special attack - Ki-21 Sally - Ohka -
A6M - Rofe at 1:30 MED - got though and near miss and caused the plane to clip the radar mast and the air and surface radar destroyed.
The KI - 21 Sally dropped the Ohka and it went clear though the ship and caused 3 hull points of damage. The KI - 21 was not hit and caused secondary compartment hit of the FWD Truck to be damaged.

Evening, got luck and rolled on Chart D and No attacks.
Total - 4 hull hits.

Ok, here is what happen.
March 29th - Station 9
Rolled badly in the set up. Started out with -3 on chart D in the Morning. But I rolled a N/A
In the Midday rolled on the -2 G table.
I has attacked by 3 aircraft, one being a special attack. There was a B7A - Grace at 9 - Level, it told 4 guns to bring it down. At 10:30 Med - P1Y1 - Francis, some very poor shooting and the plane took some damage, yet was not shot down. Rolled on the Japanese under Damaged and rolled a near miss, the plane hit and the Fwd stack was damaged.
In the evening and night -2 again and rolled on the G table. Went against three planes, shot all three of them down.
Will then start on March 30th.

Excellent, I will then go on duty tonight and see what happens. I will then report back.

Todd, guns can fire each phase but at only one plane in a clock position. If multiple guns are targeting a single plane and that plane is shot down -- say by the first gun -- then the other guns are considered to have fired for that phase and cannot target another plane.

Special attack planes are removed. Only what they carry is targeting the ship. I am at work so don't have the rules in front of me but I believe that special attack planes are removed from the draw pile until the ship is reassigned to a new duty station.

It appears I may need to increase the number of planes attacking in the charts. I will wait and see if others are experiencing the same problem.

I have not had a plane make it through yet. It seems that I have a bunch of planes only once in the three phases.
The last day I played it was March 28. I was at Station 7. The only big attack came in the morning. I rolled on Table A and under column -1. Five planes attacked. One was a special attack. The plane at 9 - Med almost got through, it took 5 guns to take it down. And the special attack caused no damage. In the afternoon phase, I rolled on Table G and again -1, no attacks. In the evening, I rolled on Table E and -1, and had 1 Peggy with an Ohka, and it caused no damage.

I think if 4 planes attack the ship every phase, one or even three are going to hit.

I have some questions, I hope I do not sound stupid or have miss read something, but think I have. After rereading the rules:

Can a gun only fire once per day? Meaning if that gun fired in the morning can it then fire in the afternoon? If the gun can only fire once per day, I have been really watching my guns. And then saving them and do not want to fire them at a target. Yet, you have to do, are the plane is going to hit the ship.

What happens to a special attack plane? The plane then attacks, it might then miss.
Yet does the plane then attack and hit the ship since it got through.

When I play these games, I also like to read books or research the subject of the game.
I just got Kamikazes, Corsairs, and Picket Ships Okinawa, 1945 by Robin L. Rielly. This book is excellent and really spells out the duties and roles of the picket ships in the battle.

I will then wait for my questions, and then carry on with playing.

Take care,

Todd, so you are seeing mor Japanese planes make it through? What about damage control - have you had to use it? Did it work?

Good Evening. Do you want me to keep reporting what happens?
So far no problems, the guns have less punch.

Less punch.

I have just finished March 27 using the updated tables and charts and rules.
I got lucky and rolled a N/A for the morning.
Rolled on table B for the Midday.
I got luck again and only got one plane. D4Y - Judy - 7:30 - Med.
It took three guns to take her down, 20 - E - Missed 5" - 5 - DMG 20 - D - SD
Evening/night - on Table 5 rolled on +1 due to no air cover, I still rolled high and N/A
I going on to March 28th.

Will be sending out major changes to Japanese attacks by Friday night. I am taking the day off from work to finish the changes.
