I've been hooked on Star Wars since waiting on line with my dad for three hours in Ford, New Jersey to see the first film on opening weekend.

I collected comics, and figures for awhile, but really got into the RPG from West End.
I have most of all of the first edition materials. I heard they went to a second edition, but like most collecting, I ran out of cash and had to choose my wargames over my RPG stuff.

Any players out there?

No, I never had the chance to play a SW roleplaying game - mainly due to a lack of other players around me. In the 80s, my friends played Star Trek RPG, so I "had" to join this universe ;)

Most SW RPG players switched over to the SW RPG from Wizards of the Coast when West End games lost their licence to them in 1998. I guess that is what you mean with "second edition". West End games produced tons of stuff during their time, I heard there are about 100 source books and various magazines. So I don't wonder you ran out of money :)

Besides this, the West End RPG was one of the famous early sources for the Expanded Universe (=the world beyond the movies) and contributed much of the early information about races, ships and planets not shown in the films. Today, some major information from the old West End games have been retconned or revised because of growing inconsistencies within the Expanded Universe. The EU is growing constantly (mainly because of the vast amount of books published by LucasArts), so it became necessary to change some of the old SW RPG stuff in order to bring it to conformity with the rest of the EU.

The successor, the SW RPG by Wizard of the Coast, is a D20 RPG roughly based on the Dungeons & Dragons engine and it became quite popular as well. Alas, I never had the chance to play this either.

By the way, I also collected figures and comics (I really like the Clone Wars graphic novels). I was quite shocked when I discovered how much people would pay for my old Boba Fett figure from Return of the Jedi. I bought it in the 80s for about 8,50 DM (something about 3,50 Dollar, I guess), and actually PLAYED with it, ignorant of its future value ;) I read an article in the latest SW Insider Magazine where a reader asked for exactly this figure (with gun), offering 1200$. I would never sell my Boba, though.
I spent my summer of 1977 washing cars, walking dogs, mowing lawns, whatever would make money to buy tickets to see the movie over and over. My best friend went with me every time and we LIVED that movie. I have been hooked ever since. For a while, I collected the graphic novels, the figures, the books, the video games and everytime they released any of the films in a new format I picked them up.

The only think that broke this obsession was that my ex took all of my Star Wars gear when he moved. I couldn't face the financial ruin of starting over, so now I content myself with occassionally picking up a new novel. And I console myself with the thought of my son living in a home FULL of my Star Wars stuff. He enjoys it, too.
Do you read the Legacy of the Force series? I'm looking forward to the final book (May 2008) and I wonder who will kill whom and how. If you do, we could open a speculation thread here in our SW group ;)
No, but I did a check on Wookiepedia and they sound interesting!! I have been reading historical (all-WWII actually) books for the past few years, getting caught up to my husband's vast knowledge to help out with his game designs. So I haven't been reading much sci-fi during that time. The last two Star Wars books I read were "Medstar I: Battle Surgeons" and "Medstar II: Jedi Healer." So that shows you just how out-of-date I am!
