Hehe hey Bill since the NSA has a record of all emails do we still have to archive our emails or can we just request a CD from them? ;)

We are learning the game - so that is why we quit.

We made other mistakes we found as well.

BTW, for an OOS fort to fall in this game, it would take 4 turns - a year for that to happen.

I don't think the LW can afford to hang around that long!

As it was it went too fast as only a 2-3 was there and I hit it with everything - armor, paras, infantry and 90% of the LW and part of the RA (Italian AF) keeping the Brits at bay.

Now, had the 2-3 been a 6-7, well, it ain't gong to fall to a bum rush - low end results on the CRT DR retreat/Depletion have no effect on Fortress Troops.

And meanwhile Spanish Morroco and Portugal are right there - the RAF could definitely build up and counter this - and what would the Germans gain?

Can't declare a flaw - we are in learning mode.

I personally think that if the Germans are willing to attack Spain, Gibraltar will fall no matter what the English put in it simply by using air to cut the supply lines into the Island.

I'd consider that somewhat a flaw as Malta was under severe and prolonged attention of the German and Italian air forces and it never fell. Granted they never tried to take it, but considering that land units are eliminated once out of supply this in effect will make the Island fall. So Malta and G are dead per the rules unless the Brits are will to try and lose 1/2 their fleet to get a fresh unit landed.

At worse units in a fortress should be 1/2 strength instead of eliminated. Leningrad is anther location that is dead.

Length of communitcation lines...

Well, that is a good question. It doubles or triples the lines of communication for the British to Africa, India and the Far East but by no means does it bring Britain to it's knees. If I were the Brits I would use the Axis engagement there as a way to trap and surround a large Axis force. Invade northern Spain and cut all land based supply to the the Axis forces in Southern Spain. You may have to wait a while till Brit forces are up to the job or till the US is engaged but time is on Britains side. Only Sealion is a death knell for the Brits IMHO.

Why do the Allies always quit if Gibraltar falls?

Comment by Chris Smith on May 7, 2013 at 8:18am

Wow! That sounds like a blast. Got to get over there and give it a try.

UPDATE: The War: Europe 1939-1945.

Last Saturday we had a Vernon to be loved event - the French crushed in spring 1940, the Nazis got word that only a 2-3 was parked in Fortress Gibraltar.

Spain faced a DOW from the Reich, whihc crushed it without a loss, then took up positions aroung Gibraltar - cutting it off from supply with the Luftwaffe, which would see a failed gauntelt of HMS ships either sunk or chased away.

Gibraltar would fall in Fall 1940.

----------------------------------

So, we restarted it this past Thursday - Stuart and I - we played again last night.  France managed to convince Belgium to let them in in Winter 1939 through diplomatic means - this would require two turns for Germany to smash France. This time Gibraltar was secured by a 6-7 Brit there AND a friendly Portugal allowing British occupation.

Meanwhile, Yugoslavia has all but become a satellite through diplomacy to Germany, and Greece is making deals with Italy. Not yet friends, but getting there.

France has been pummeled; it is is summer 1940 and she is not going to survive this turn.

Britain is on the fringes, as it should be, Italy is still Neutral; not for long though.

We see a Naval build policy at full bore for both Italy and Britain - and a secured Balkan Front for the Axis - question is - can the Germans shift enough power to cut off Suez and secure the Eastern Med in conjunction with Italy?

Or will we just throw everything at the Soviet Union?

Seems to me as the Axis player that more fun and profit is to be has in the far South East corner of the map - Suez to Baku, with a drive to Victory somewhere in Russia....

Rebel Raiders and Iron & Oak awaited me at the back door.

Stuart is pouring over the ship cards in Iron & Oak as I type this.

I got well trained on it with the Developer at PrezCon.

Hopefully my copy will arrive soon - hope to take to the beach and take on Fred with it while on vacation - getting Oak and Iron too to go with it.
