Board wargaming in Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill

Hey everyone!

Welcome to Triangle area wargaming :)

I'm going to try to get certain running organizational tasks in their own discussions, so people can discuss what to play at certain linkups there, and save this area for bigger announcements.

For now, I'm just happy we've all got one place to try and organize a few games!

My wife is out of town this Thursday, so yes I'd like to come. You still off N. Harrison Avenue?

I'm definitely interested.  The back catalog at my place is shameful, so finding some folks who actually want to play these games would be a huge boon.

Indomitable? You realize that I lost that TGD scenario we wrapped up when you were here last week?

Henry, La Bat is one of the series that Bryan has expressed an interest in playing. We can discuss that more when we meet this week.

Don, you know you're always welcome to join us.

Actually, anyone on this list is welcome, too. We meet every Thursday night from 6 to 9 at my place in north Cary. This week Henry will be teaching us Fire in the Lake but then we'll be off the next two weeks for the holidays. We'll resume with a new game in the new year.

We may also meet at my place during one day of the week between Christmas and New Years.

Please post here or email if you're interested.

Keith:  I definitely would like to get together sometime during the holidays and get some gaming in.  My schedule is pretty flexible.  Please shoot me an email at hcoates2(at)

Bruce:  It is so neat that you saw my message, what a small world.  It really was your passion on the episodes on ASL and Historical Accuracy in gaming that pushed me over the edge to finally enter into a hobby I've always admired at a distance.  If you are ever down to game post Christmas, please shoot me at email at hcoates2(at)  It would be a real pleasure.

Don:  I'm down for anything come the New Year. I'm a quick learn. Shoot me an email some time at hcoates2(at) and let us see if we can work something out.  That would be great, always wanted to play one of those "monster" games!

I have the following la bat:

Ligny, Quatre Bras, Mont Ste. Jean, Albuera, Talavera, D'orthez, Moscowa and Lutzen.

I'm happy to prep any of them for play.  Right now just Quatre Bras is table ready.  I'm trying to relearn Les Regs XXX right now actually.

So, I'm game for anything!

I'm waiting to get some new lighting in my living room, and then I hope to be setting up Moscova. Probably sometime around the first of the year. If aI get a copy Vauchamps, we could play that to get everyone back on board with the rule set.

Hi Henry,

Glad you like the podcast, and that it got you buying boardgames! I'd also love to get together sometime over the next few weeks, although I'm working every day from now until the day after Christmas.  After that I'll have some free time.

Hi Henry -

If you want to get together over the holidays (19th - 2nd) just let me know and I'm sure we can work something out!

Hi All, I'm a relatively recent transplant to the Triangle area, now living in Apex, and a relative newcomer to historically based wargames/boardgames.  I've already had the pleasure to meet the indomitable Dick Vohlers and a couple other guys.  I'm hoping to meet with more of you all as we head into the end of this year and into the next. Have car, will travel.

Despite a long time interest in all things historical, it was only after listening to a great strategy games podcast called Three Moves Ahead.  Soon there after my fiance bought me Advanced Squad Leader Starter Kit 1 and I bought myself Fire in the Lake and Combat Commander.  I am eager to play these games, and games like Churchill, Day of Days, Paths of Glory, Offensive à Outrance.

If any of you all want to make anything happen, let me know.  Thanks!

Don - Sorry to hear about your injury!

Last year was a lot of fun, so I'd definitely be up for it again this year.  Keep me in the loop.
