Tribute to Redmond

Hi all in this hobby, I wanted to start this group for us gamers who still today play and enjoy wonderful games with Redmond's graphical designs. Please comment on your favorites and add stories about events that took place a long time ago at SPI.

Redmond was a bit of a demigod to our little Gang of Science Fiction wargamers back in the mid-late 70's, in the Glory Days of StarForce and BattleFleet Mars. Even now I tend to think of him as St. Simonsen.

Thanks for sharing your story, Kevin. Yes, it's amazing what Redmond did for the hobby given the tools of the day.

Just found this group. What a great idea! I got my start in graphic design in 1972 working for Redmond Simonsen at SPI. I was attending Parsons School of Design, and needed a part time job. Being a wargamer as well, I "manned-up" and dropped in unannounced for an interview at SPI. I was lucky enough to be given a tryout, and was offered a part time job. I got to work on the games, as well as the magazines. This was old school 'paste up', and I learned alot from Redmond Simonsen about design, as well as print production. I left my part-time employment when I neared graduation in '74. I have lots of fond memories of working at SPI.
