There are really a lot of good ones. Where do I start?

RED STAR/WHITE STAR (1st Ed)
HIGHWAY TO THE REICH (loved those triangles for morale)
TASK FORCE
RED SUN RISING
TERRIBLE SWIFT SWORD (1st Ed)
WAR IN THE PACIFIC
BATTLEFLEET MARS
SNIPER! and PATROL (those vehicle "counters!")
SICILY
CITYFIGHT!

Should I list the worst counters? Just for comparison?

ARMADA
UP SCOPE!
FIREFIGHT
TANK!
LORD OF THE RINGS (sigh)
RAID!

I agree with everything except perhaps, RAID! I liked the game, which makes me suspect to begin with, so perhaps there was a 'halo' effect for me with the counters.
I try to imitate the look of Simonsen's counters in my homemade designs, and haven't found a free font that mimics the "Univers 55" he used in so many of his counter sets. It looks like Helvetica, but not quite. I usually use Arial Black, which comes fairly close, and the great "Mapsymbs" NATO symbology dingbat fonts by Tom Mouat.

I liked the counters for THE CREATURE THAT ATE SHEBOYGAN.

Highway to the Reich was a favourite for me.
