Here's my list:

1. TOAW III. Has its problems but overall I've played this more than anything.
2. SSG's Decisive Battles series. All are great games, love the Ardennes Offensive!
3. Steel Panthers: World At War. Closest thing to ASL I've seen.
4. Gary Grigsby's World at War: A World Divided. All Grigsby games are awesome.
5. Airborne Assault series. This will rate higher as I get more plays in, excellent command system.

1. Steel Panthers: World War II (not Matrix version, the SP CAMO version is much better)
2. TOAW III (from Matrix Games)
3. War in the Pacific (from Matrix Games)
4. CWIE-II (due out in the summer of 2008 by DG)
5. Commander - Europe at War (Matrix Games)

I also have:

Gary Grigsby's World at War: A World Divided and Hearts of Iron I and a host of other computer games. These two I don't play to much, I have spent more time with Hearts of Iron though. I was a little bit disappointed with WAW:AWD.

I mostly play SPWW2 and TOAW III solo and now my new favorite game is WITP. I have been playtesting DG CWIE-II and it's a blast, but I have played it so much I am getting burnt out on it.
the old SSI civil war games. screen looked like the SPI blue gray Quads
1. Harpoon Hands down my favorite war game for the PC.
2. The Grandest Fleet
3. Panzer General Never really did play it a whole lot but it was a lot of fun.
Harpoon (In all of its forms)
Age of Empires Series (Including Star Wars Battlegrounds)
Steel Panthers Series
The Operational Art of War III
War in the Pacific/War Plan Orange
(1) Panzer General
(2) Steel Panthers and Overrun - Gary Grisby classics
(3) Battle Isle - sci-fi battles
(4) Austerlitz - best of Peter Turcan. In 1989 this was a real blast ! Poor graphics, but you could type a vast selection of orders to command your army.
I like to play Perfect General (Internet Edition) which is the republished version by KillerBeeSoftware.
I have recently bought The Campaign Series from Matix Games and have played a D-Day scenario (poorly).
USAAF ROCKED ....

Fav Steel Panthers 73 Easting.
Harpoon. There is nothing else.
1) Combat Mission (Battlefront)
2) TacOps (Battlefront)
I love playing these two PBEM with my friend between our bi-weekly FTF meets.

3) Carrier Strike (SSI) - still my favorite WW2 carrier game
4) Actually, the rest of them all kind of blur together for me at this point...
1) GodOfMiniWars http://www.thewargamer.com/grognard/godofwars.zip my personal fav :)
2) Battlegrounds civil war these games are blazing £19 for all 5 from matrix and they work on high spec pc
3) Steel Panthers all of them
4) Highway to the Riche, better I think than Battles from the bulge, but Ive not played BftB much
5) Sid Meiers Gettysburg its an RTS but not like you would think.
  1. Hearts of Iron II & 3 : played the most so it gets 1st spot.
  2. Highway to the Reich & Conquest of the Aegean : anything Panther Games puts out challenges & keeps me interested;
  3. Steel Panthers: just exploring this now & so far like what I see;
  4. Kharkov: Disaster on the Donets: keeps me coming back for more, just wish SSG wasn't so quiet;
  5. Grigsby's WITP: AE; my solitaire monster-game
