Not exactly--he's revisited a lot of the same battles (although I'm not sure about Ardennes, which was the very first), but they would probably be a lot bigger. I don't believe there were 11 full Talonsoft Battleground series games, but there were some other WW II games at a more tactical level? But I lose track there are so many games using his handful of base game engines. If anyone would have some flavor of the Talonsoft versions it would be the Matrix versions (I think they've combined severl titles into one package? I haven't really looked at them). You might check with the NWS Online store--they sometimes have used/old titles for sale.

@ Scott - I have the first 3 games by Talonsoft, and I have briefly looked at Ardennes, and it looks good. There does seem to have been 11 games in the series, but I really struggled to find the three I have.

Has John Tiller re-done them all with HPS?

@ Simon and Harry - thanks for your input, as you have probably convinced me to buy these games. They look really good and sound just the ticket (by what VR and Matrix say) but it is more important to get the views of others.

But like my board games, I have a long queue of computer games lined up.....which one next????...ha ha ha

I've only ever played the actual Talonsoft versions of the Battleground series, not the remakes/refurbished versions Matrix has put out. They were good for their day, although generally smaller than the versions of the game John Tiller's published through HPS Simulations or his own John Tiller Software--fewer scenarios, all usually on segments of the same map. This did have the benefit, though, of better looking maps (IMO), because they were basically hand-painted by former a former Avalon Hill staffer (I want to say Charlie Kibler???).

I am a big fan of the Decisive Campaigns series.  I purchased Case Blue as soon as it was available...which I usually do not do.  Of the operational games that I own I play Warsaw to Paris and now Case Blue more than all the others combined (TOAW III, WitE, AGW).  It's not that I do not like or play the other games, I just like DC that much.  It hits a sweet spot between of detail, management and playability that works for me...its very...whats a good word...comfortable :)

Hi Roger,

I've played Case Blue, it's a good solid divisional unit sized game. The interface takes a little getting used to but once you've got to grips with it it's easy. The AI in the latest offering can be very good.

Has anyone played the Decisive Campaign games from VR design? They look pretty good, but it would be nice if anyone has a review of them

Has anyone here had much experience playing the Talonsoft Battleground Series?

Thoughts and opinions greatly needed

I am playing John Tiller's Campaign series at the moment. An enjoyable game so far, but sometimes i do find it difficult to locate the units, depending on the terrain they are on.
