Al of the playtest counters were hand painted
This takes me back to 1977 and the local SF Bay Area convention held at the Villa hotel somewhere up the peninsula ( San Carlos?) A group of guys playing La Bataille with hand painted counters. That turned my head and got me going. I think that was the moment I knew I was going to be a board wargamer and not a role game player.
Wow. Leipzig is the one La Bataille game I didn't get. It was simply so huge!
