PanzerArmee Afrika and play aids.
Many thanks, John. It has been good fun so far. Will try to update. Hope you are enjoying whatever you've got on the table.
Thanks for those references, Eric! I had not seen that HAMTAG episode, though I am a fan. Will have to dig it up. I have many African Front games, so I'm hoping to play through them all and track the evolution of how that theater is treated in wargaming over time. The African Campaign is on my list to check out, it was republished by Compass recently, I believe?
And yes the CnC rule is a bit clunky, but fun to have in the mix. Are you perhaps referring to a variant that is included in the Grognard.com entry for PAA? Maybe worth a try during my next play.
And what can I say about the Scottish play aid, except that you have excellent taste!
Hope you are similarly enjoying your own copy of whatever is on the table.
Very cool. I always wanted to try this game. And it looks great set-up. Let us know how it goes!
Ah, the marvelous Avalon Hill edition! Judd Vance listed this game in his "Top 5 Wargames of the 1970s on the recent HAMTAG (Half As Much, Twice As Good) lite video last Saturday. I still have both this edition and a copy of the original SPI Strategy & Tactics magazine game. When the only alternative was AH's Afrika Korps, this easily saw a lot of play. JEDKO's game, The African Campaign, ran close behind this one when it got published.
We did have our own house rules regarding Commonwealth Command and Control which achieved the same effect but wasn't tied to hex numbering/locations, if I remember right.
I must also confess to being a fan of Lagavulin 16 Islay pure malt, so what I see here in our photo is a little slice of wargaming heaven!
