"I'm more than happy with my investment for this program. The only tweaks I'd like to see are not related to the map-making process, but to program defaults. I'd like to be able to set (once) the default directories for saving and…"
"Oh, you wanted transparency. Same here. I tackled it by exporting as a gif, then opened in GIMP, and chose the Select by Color Tool (top right of the Toolbox, showing red/blue/green pixels in a stack). Click on the colour in the hex, hit delete, and…"
"AHA!!! Even simpler solution!!!
When you first create your map, choose a background colour of 254-255-255 and you'll get white. No need to fill the hexes with 'white' terrain!!
Easy, peasy, chicken squeezy."
"Ah, you misunderstand what I'm saying. The hexdot comment was an aside - keep them turned off.
If you choose 254-255-255 as a Terrain colour, you get white output.

Pure black is transparent.…"
I can't find Jo's original solution sent to me, but essentially you need to install the program in something other than the Program Files directory. That means changing the default path during the installation process. I…"
"Create a subdirectory in the Templates directory and move all the ASL stuff there. Or just delete them -- but I don't like to trash stuff that might have a use later. That way, the default directory has only your additions in it.
The links from…"
"The ASL system has this one covered. The historical maps sometimes have "slopes" radiating from hexsides.
For HexDraw, create a graphic that uses dark grey for the slope lines, with a black background. I find it interesting that HD treats…"
"Another thing I do is to do Google Image searches for the type of thing I want in graphic form. I did a quick search for "Swamp Graphics", and the 8th image suggested looks like it could work for your needs. Try that for any textures you…"
"Oops, there IS a Part 4
If you simply want a plain colour to fill a hex, use the same procedure to create a Terrain name for the list...
BUT, instead of using the Open File icon to choose a file, use the Terrain Colour button to the left, and then…"
