Brant Guillory - Game Commando, BayonetGames

Profile Information

Your introduction to consim gaming:
I'm Brant, the wargame-design half of BayonetGames. Currently in Raleigh, NC, but with regular jaunts to Columbus, OH, and Monterey, CA. I love modern-era gaming, prefer face-to-face over the tabletop to any kind of digital gaming.
Your favorite game(s):
Warfighter series; SPI's Modern Battles quads; Lock'n'Load; World at War; Next Wars; Heroscape with my 6-year-old son
What game(s) are you currently playing (solitaire, FTF, PBEM, etc.) or wish to play next?
Warfighter series (Asian Thunder & World of Conflict), Next Wars I: Orange Crush; finally cleared the Siege of Eisenbach from the desk at work; Looking forward to CC: Dawn's Early Light
What game(s) have you played recently?
Lots of new 4E D&D (at work); Lots of HALO with the videogamers at work (finally getting the hang of it)
Wargames: Warfighter series (Asian Thunder & World of Conflict), Next Wars I: Orange Crush, World at War series from LnL.
Non-Wargames: Carcassonne: Hunters & Gatherers and Kids of... ; Castle Keep; Ticket to Ride...
In general, how much time do you spend gaming?
Not enough!
How big is your game collection?
Wargames: 35-40 or so; Eurogames: 10-12; RPG products: 180 or so
Your local game club(s) and/or where you reside (let's network!)
Raleigh, NC (Triangle area); frequent trips to Columbus (CABS)... no local club around Raleigh, yet - hoping to start one soon
About Me
14 years in the military (split active/nat'l guard); 21 years as Army brat; work for a defense contractor doing software design and some training management; write for Wargamer.com and a few others; love games with buckets of dice, and tho I can't stand the game, I have a fondness for the collectible D&D minis; I love finding neat games from small unknown publishers
Personal Interests (favorite activities, movies, shows, books, music, etc.)
Favorite Movies: Ronin; Ocean's 11 (2001); Farewell to the King; Hi-Fidelity; Singles
Favorite TV Shows: Big Bang Theory; Heroes; How I Met Your Mother; That 70s Show (been catching up on DVDs); seriously wishing there was a way to revive Studio 60
Favorite Sports: Soccer (USMNT, Newcastle United, Columbus Crew); College Football (NC State, South Carolina, LSU); Baseball (Astros); NHL (Hurricanes)

I dig hiking and biking outside with my son, and flat-water kayaking when the weather's nice. I like traveling and checking out historical locations (Stirling, Scotland is a great under-rated historical destination). My wife is a fantastic photographer, so we usually get postcard-quality pictures out of our trips, too.

Brant, you may have gotten only one comment after all your work. But you will never know how many people actually checked out your stuff, though to themselves "Cool!" and went on their merry way. I don't comment on much, but I check out a LOT of stuff on here. And I appreciate the effort you put into your additions!

Brant,

Maybe we'll link up next time. This was my first Origins, so there was lots I didn't see. I did make it up to the board wargaming area briefly and talked to Mike Reed and John Kisner, but then we were off exploring.

I went this year to play in the FoW Tourny - it was two days - so that was where I hung out a lot.

Nice time, I'll probably be back.

We only got out for Thursday - out and back due to the issues with KAtie's father.

It all has worked out and I am on my way to Origins, I hope to meet you there somewhere.

I like your new pic.

Dan, thanks but I think he's actually looking for Dan Verssen's "Frontline D-Day" card game- similar title to my Frontline General games. I did not see any rules for the game posted on DVG's site though...

Nope, wasn't there--as a software engineer I don't go on the road much any more unless we're rolling out a major new piece of software/updates. Mostly we're connected back to LVN so we can fix stuff from here.

Counterattack at Salyan - Liveblogging today's Warfighter game

Following the Iranian assault on Salyan, and initial capture of the city, the Iranians pulled out of the area to avoid a protracted occupation battle in Salyan. In the meantime, the Azeris have pieced together a mech infantry company, and the US landed a Stryker infantry company at the airfield to join the fight.

Interesting discussion of WW3 hypotheticals

There's an interesting discussion of hypotheticals around a 1985 WW3 over at Wargamer.com

http://www.wargamer.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=363867

I figure that while talk.csw is down, some of you might want to jump into the conversation over there.

There's also a thread about the air war that might've happened at the same time, but the ground war… Continue

I've found the internal debate (i.e. the debate in my head) has been to either play a lot of games poorly or a few games well. I prefer the latter model, but then you must, as you say, find that set of holy grail games that one chooses to become goo…

Chris: Really - that's a good point. I wonder if the Audi folks realized the message they were sending out with this one. I doubt if anyone found it funny in the least. Smitty

Yes, this was a creepy ad. I looked at the Audi website to compare this car to others. Oddly enough, you are unable to compare it to the VW SportWagon TDI, which gets exactly the same mileage.
