Profile Information

Your introduction to consim gaming:
Started playing Risk, divine right and Diplomacy with my older brother when I was around 9-10. Moved on to role-playing games in my teens and got heavily into wargames when I was around 15, Flat Top being a favourite. Been playing off and on since then....
Your favorite game(s):
ASL must be top of the list, my wife says if I had shown as much committment to my career as to this game then we could have retired by now.
Discovered Panzer Grenadier a year or so ago and that has become a regular.
World in Flames I really love but rarely get to play :(
Always up for a game of Up Front.
What game(s) are you currently playing (solitaire, FTF, PBEM, etc.) or wish to play next?
FTF - Queen of the Celts, Panzer grenadier - Cassino '44. Solo - Third Reich and Red Barricades campaign
What game(s) have you played recently?
ASL, Panzer Grenadier, Ace of Aces, Up front, Rome at War, Gondor
In general, how much time do you spend gaming?
Really varies, at least a couple of hours a week but depends on when I can get a game
How big is your game collection?
Not large - I have owned hundreds of games over the years but I ususally give or sell them when I stop playing.
Your local game club(s) and/or where you reside (let's network!)
Driifeld, East Yorkshire - Always ready to play anything!
About Me
Live in a small village in rural East Yorkshire. Married with 3 children. Been suffering for an acute form of arthritis over the last few years which has been a drag.
Personal Interests (favorite activities, movies, shows, books, music, etc.)
I teach children with behavioural problems - can be quite tough sometimes. Love archery, playing the concertina, but the arthtritis is causing me some trouble.

Outlaws: Adventures in the Old West - Introductory module

Howdy everyone,  I have been asked a few times if an introductory version of Outlaws: Adventures in the Old West could be created – well here it is: a new game board, four new characters and three new scenarios.

Find all you need here:

If you later decide to print and play the full game these components can be used to expand the core game.

Combat Patrol hits the city...

The first installment of the Combat Patrol series is set in the fields and villages of France and Germany in 1944-45. That game is now firmly in the hands of the developer Neil Randall and approaching completion, I have begun work on the second game - this time based in the cities and towns of the eastern front.

In this playtest scenario a group of Russians are held up in the Shoemakers shop as a German Pioneers move into clear the… Continue

Combat Patrol - House Clearing

***** All graphics are only for playtesting *****

One of the painful experiences of designing your own game system is that you might discover you are not very good at playing it. My long time playtest partner has a considerably better win/loss ratio than myself and in a recent playtest session showed me why. We were playtesting scenario 2 – Patrol. The Patrol scenario has many options and we were playing using the Farm and the Stream… Continue

Combat Patrol - command and initiative system.

The command and initiative system in Combat Patrol is simple and easy to implement, however under its apparent simplicity lie some tough decisions for the player to make. In designing the system I wanted to be able to reflect the following criteria:

• The training the squad has undertaken – a well trained squad can undertake coordinated actions. In Combat Patrol, the quality of a squads training is represented by the maximum number of cards… Continue

Dave,

I'd like to have a go at both, I suppose ASL would be a good start point. The wife works away from home and she has a week off next week. I would think wednesday 11th will work, I can confirm this later. If your rusty I'll be pretty seized up! Any ideas on what scenario? I suppose infantry only would be an idea. Do you have any suggestions for which rules to get down first?

Its great to be arranging a face to face game, something I never thought would happen.

Salutes in a brisk fashion.

Great to hear from you. I was admiring the Cassino maps in your photo's they are a thing of beauty. It would be great to hook up for a game, but you'll have to teach me. I've been reading around ASL and I have the rule book but ASLSK is the limit of my experience at the moment. I do like the look of Panzer Grenadier, having read PGHQ aar the sweep of the action really appeals. Where to start, what to buy? Your Combat patrol game looks very cool. Let me know when your available.

Speak soon.

Yes John, just saw your post on the photo page. The Avalanche Press website has just published an article I wrote about the map design in their Daily Content.
