You can make a single change to any formation, by paying the movement cost. I can know of no rule that states you must be in Movement to Contact, to make the change.

We too just dusted this game off..its been at least 10 years but I'll bet longer since we played. The big problem for us was the first several games..and the mistakes we made..due to not remembering a rule or just the mucking up the flow of the game…
Geoff and I were playing Iraq's attack on the GCC this weekend. After a deep strike into Saudi they engaged US and GCC forces. Two divisions had become damaged, due to ambushes, 3 hits and 4. Then in combat they attacked using gas, and were hit with…
I remember a question about air damage, but can not seem to find it now. The question as I remember it was could you move below the 0 track..thus not taking a hit. In the Insert page 6 "Short Range Air-Air Interception Example" clearly shows ECM dri…
On Special Forces..until we created a house rule..it was not uncommon for combat units to become eliminated do to ambushes. (we protected ourselves against raids, since all you need is an assault unit in the hex. While the US player was using his SF…
My guess is that 34R1 overrides the parent section 33L4. 34R1 states "A friendly naval unit may attempt to detect any enemy naval unit that is within its Surface (or Sub-Surface, for submarines) Detection Range. The player announces the detection at…
When playing the USSR I like to wait until I can get use chemicals to gain key targets, since the effect of them lessens each round until 6 turns later. I then use the heck out of them...the column shifts are great..5 for the first three turns!

Mark look at the detection again..if the moving player moves into a hex with undetected units he can always attempt detection, provided no previous detection attempt has been made at that range!

Geoff and I have had a running debate about this for years...the rules seem to state that they loose elite status, but this doesn't make sense in my view. The way we have always played it..is that only armored units and infantry units are used to de…
All brigades are brittle, since when things get hot..taking 2 hits (thus putting them on their reverse side) can happen quickly. Air strikes are a good way to do this, but for ground combat you should always stack a group of brigades. The US side ha…
Also there is the limit of only one formation per hex, except for truck units that are always in travel formation. Units of a different formation would most likely be unable to enter a hex, in locking ZOC, where their units were in a different forma…
Mark, I would not read it that way. Since the only movement allowed while in ZOC is for Armor units to move out of the hex, and for Infantry units to withdraw. I think you should be able to spend movement points to change formation, since otherwise…
This should come as no surprise, but I am having problems with Iraqi supply. (Desert Storm) Iran will suffer less, since they have more trucks, but it is not easy to keep the US player from blowing away supply depots. What is your experience, scenar…
I'd like to personally invite you all to read a full preview (13Mb PDF link) of our new fast-playing (30 minutes) tactical WWII card game, Frontline General: Spearpoint 1943 in our newsletter. I'm happy to announce that we've just passed the 200 p…
I've found the internal debate (i.e. the debate in my head) has been to either play a lot of games poorly or a few games well. I prefer the latter model, but then you must, as you say, find that set of holy grail games that one chooses to become goo…
Chris:
Really - that's a good point. I wonder if the Audi folks realized the message they were sending out with this one. I doubt if anyone found it funny in the least.

I've recently printed and built "To the Last Man." I was able to play the game and get an idea of its look and feel beforehand thanks to BGG and Cyberboard. It's an excellent game, one well worth the bother.
I _hope_ it is just by unfortunate accid…
Yes, this was a creepy ad. I looked at the Audi website to compare this car to others. Oddly enough, you are unable to compare it to the VW SportWagon TDI, which gets exactly the same mileage.
Lately, I've been mad at Newsweek, due to issues of bias that are beyond the realm of this group. However, tonight I read a very good article on its web site, regarding layoffs.I was once in a meeting at a former employer, and we were going over th…
