It was not a punctuated thing. Rather, gaming was either something I've always done (in my memory), or the act of gaming arose seamlessly from play. Pretend took on more rules as I progressed through childhood until it involved rulers and numbers. The points which behavior becomes play and play becomes game are difficult to define.
