Profile Information

Your introduction to consim gaming:
I forget exactly how I got into wargaming, but I have memories of playing Risk with my Dad as a child. Then I think he bought us a copy of Avalon Hill’s Outdoor Survival – because we did a lot of camping! I think that was my first introduction to a hex-and-counter game.

Then: high school, college, marriage, career, kids. No boardgaming for about 25 years. I did plenty of desktop PC gamng though, especially simulation style games like SimCity and most of all Sid Meier’s Civilization. I started to get tired of staring at the PC screen though. So my older son and I started playing Risk and then Lord of the Rings Risk. We enjoyed making up our own variants. While searching about for another boardgame, I stumbled on GMT and the CDG’s. And now here I am.
Your favorite game(s):
Twilight Struggle
Here I Stand
The Ancient World series
What game(s) are you currently playing (solitaire, FTF, PBEM, etc.) or wish to play next?
Now: Twilight Struggle by PBEM. Next: Here I Stand, 2-player by PBEM
In general, how much time do you spend gaming?
Lately, a few hours a week by PBEM
How big is your game collection?
Relatively small: CDGs, a few others, and some vintage ones from the old days.
Your local game club(s) and/or where you reside (let's network!)
Ellicott City/Columbia area of Maryland
My game collection is relatively small. I categorize it into three groups:
1) Card Driven Games.
2) Other Recent Games. These are wargames I’ve picked up since getting back into the hobby.
3) Vintage Games. These are the games that I somehow managed to retain during my non-gaming years, usually in a forgotten box stowed away in deep storage.

Except for Twilight Struggle, Here I Stand, and the Ancient World series, I’m pretty much a rookie at all these games. The ones with the asterisk are ones I haven’t even tried yet.

Card Driven Games:
Twilight Struggle
Here I Stand
Hannibal: Rome vs Carthage
Paths of Glory
WWII: Barbarossa to Berlin
For the People
Sword of Rome
Wilderness War
Conquest of Paradise *
Thirty Years War *

Other Recent Games:
Pax Romana *
War Galley (reprint)
S.P.Q.R. (Great Battles of History, Volume II) (2nd ed.) *
Rise of the Roman Republic (The Ancient World, Volume I)
Carthage (The Ancient World, Volume II)
Empires of the Middle Ages (Decision Games reprint) *
Soldier Kings *
Three Days of Gettysburg *
Great War in Europe: Deluxe Edition *
Fire in the Sky *
War of the Ring (Nexus)

Vintage Games:
Air Assault on Crete / Invasion of Malta
The Civil War (Victory Games)
Wooden Ships and Iron Men
The Crusades (S&T magazine game)
Battle of Monmouth (S&T magazine game)
Voyage of the B.S.M. Pandora (Ares magazine game)
Freedom in the Galaxy
Awful Green Things from Outer Space
The Creature That Ate Sheboygan
Outdoor Survival

I am a long time game player. Formerly from Damascus, MD -- but now retired to Bethany Beach, DE.  Looking for FTF or vassal opponents. Particularly anyone on the Ocean Side of the Bay Bridge, but would be willing to commute for an occasional day of gaming in the Baltimore area.  Play mostly games from Civil War through Korea.

That's an pic of the double harbor of Carthage. I forget exactly where I grabbed it on my web travels. I'll e-mail you the image.

The "Edit Page Appearance" menu item under the "My Page" tab has an option for adding to your own image as the masthead. Then I had to fiddle with the advanced settings - I used to know HTML, so I made some edits on the Style Sheet. It took a lot of trial and error to get the CSW logo on a good spot on the image.

Howdy, Jay! Good to see Howard County well-represented.
