Hi Larry and thank you for purchasing my book. I will be at GenCon, Thursday through Saturday running games if you're in the area, look me up, Hall F. As for the games, if you have the figures, and I'm presuming you do or you wouldn't specify 54mm, there are a lot of ways to do a game. First, if you know of a specific battle, or segment of a battle such as Falujah, then you can count out the number of troops and vehicles you need. Secondly, you can base a game roughly on a battle or skirmish you know about, but tinker with the numbers and or equipment. That's what I generally do.
Third, you can just make up a what if scenario. What would be interesting (or scary) to you? For example, what about a squad setting up an ambush for some Al Queda? Or, what about a sweep through the country with a platoon? El Queda's player(s) could have a variable number (diced for - simplest way is roll 2 dice for total EQ fighters, reroll all sixes and add them to the total. That's especially useful if there are only two of you playing! The scenarios and game locations are as numerous as real life. Game outside the box! Put your experience and background knowledge into patnership with your imagination and have some fun!!! Let me know what comes up!!!
PS If you are interested in other periods but don'thave the minis, go to Juniorgeneral.org and download and print (for free) whatever your wargaming heart desires, they have it!!!
