Mike Arnold replied to Jim Werbaneth's discussion A Question About Your Early Days in Wargaming
"My parents were supportive. My older brother (5yrs) got me "into" wargames with '64 AH Gettysburg. We, as a family (6x), played the usual array of parlor games (Monopoly, Sorry, Parcheesi, etc....) fairly regularly. This included a…"

Mike Arnold replied to John Kranz's discussion What are you playing?
"Just laid out and punching counters for When Eagles Fight. Bought it at PREZCON in Feb and finally getting to it. Nice layout, rules, board and counters, other than the classic issue of the unit counters being larger than the hexes... :-/"

Mike Arnold replied to John Kranz's discussion What are you playing?
"Only 30 years of gaming experience? Rookie, I've been wargaming since 1966, started with AH Gettysburg with my older brother. :-) Different strokes indeed; but Igo-Ugo-roll the dice isn't complex imho."

Mike Arnold replied to John Kranz's discussion What are you playing?
"Yes, the decisions are daunting at first. Focus on what your faction is capable of doing via Ops/Special Activities/Event cards, and do them, as it pertains to achieving points towards your victory conditions."

Mike Arnold replied to John Kranz's discussion What are you playing?
"What are you looking for in a "wargame", checkers or chess? But yes, there is a heavy political and "hearts & minds" aspect to the game, and not just a rock'em sock'em US vs VC military battle game. The COIN series…"

"Just found the site a couple days ago.  I live vic Manassas, Va., and I mostly like pushing cardboard counters across hex-grids, FtF wargames, and a handful of multi-player CDGs. I've taken a recent liking to the…"

Profile Information

Your introduction to consim gaming:
From my older brother back around 1967-9, he acquired a copy of AH Gettysburg from somewhere, and we'd mess around with it. In the early 70's (he had gone off to college), I discovered that hobby stores, where I was getting my model supplies, started regularly carrying AH/SPI wargames, so I started picking up titles.
Your favorite game(s):
Normandy '44, Bitter Woods, Ardennes '44, Yalu, anything GCACW, Triumph of Chaos, CDGs, and the COIN series, and Geronimo - other "Indian" related game.
What game(s) are you currently playing (solitaire, FTF, PBEM, etc.) or wish to play next?
Have "Russia Beseiged" and "Warpath" on the table(s), prepping for upcoming sessions over Columbus Day weekend..
What game(s) have you played recently?
The Lamps Are Going Out, For the People, Reds, Churchill, GCACW-Grant Takes Command, NUTS!
In general, how much time do you spend gaming?
An hour or two almost every night when I'm not traveling; 1-2 full days a month.
How big is your game collection?
~60-65
