Thanks Mike,
Well, that's interesting. I did ponder over buying Crown of Roses so would be keen to try that with you and others. On the same topic, I'm waiting to receive my copy of GMT's just released Blood and Roses, which covers the major engagements of the Wars of the Roses at a tactical level. Maybe you might like to try that when it arrives?
Two other strands are: if the boardgaming group that meets on Wednesdays is a war gaming group and not too far from Chelmsford (ie less than 20 miles), I'd be interested in coming along if there's space for another. Also while I'm not a miniatures player, I think that the boardgaming and miniatures gap can be bridged by using a boardgaming rules system with miniatures on a terrain cloth which has a printed hex grid. Perhaps we could explore this with the Blood and Roses rules and miniatures figures? I'd be keen to try this approach out, maybe at the Southend club or elsewhere (space permitting).
Anyway, please drop me a line. My email address is: brendanclark1@btinternet.com
Cheers,
Brendan
Hi Brendan:
I'm out in the sticks a bit - Great Leighs - but there could be several areas of mutual interest. My main interest is miniatures wargaming and I have a small internet business selling figures. However, I've played boardgames since the 1970s when I was on the editorial staff of The Wargamer magazine that became 3Ws (World Wide Wargamers). Currently I am involved in a project to set up an operation in the UK to market boardgames.
I am a member of Southend Wargames Club which meets at a member's house in Rayleigh on Thursdays and a boardgaming group which meets on Wednesdays at members' homes. One of the members runs Games Gazette, a games review magazine which is now online after many years of selling in hard copy format. Many of our games sessions are playing games to be reviewed in Gamers Gazette or play-testing potential new games - but we have a few favourites that get aired when the mood takes us.
My entry on CW derived from a decision to purchase Crown of Roses by GMT. I have played Frederick's War (is that the right name?) but I think that's the only other GMT game I've played. The Wars of the Roses has been of interest for many years, deriving from playing "Kingmaker", when it first appeared on the market way, way back and I'm painting a miniature army for table top games. My wife is very interested in Richard III as well.
OK - that's me (oh, I forgot to say that, although mentally I'm around 25, my knees and back are 75!). If, after learning all this, you'd like to make contact outside of CW, let me know.
Cheers,
Mike

Hi Mike,
Just seen your entry on CW. I live in Chelmsford and play a few GMT boardgames - maybe our interests might coincide?
Cheers,
Brendan
