Quick question regarding sizing and scale issues

Hi all,I hope someone here has run across this before..... I am back trying to make some maps for a tactical level game (Valor & Victory), and the maps used are 4200x2550 pixels at 300 ppi. Problem is that Hexdraw gives us 400 ppi and I am having a heck of time to get the Hexdraw maps scaled properly to match.Side note: this would be especially helpful, since I have an overlay which I can dump over the final map to (easily) fix little things I do when adding various elements that may cross…See More

Did you know? (Yes, this is Hexdraw related.)

I realize everyone who uses Hexdraw knows that Black (0,0,0 RGB) is the transparency that Jo has programmed. However, I have found that when I save my overlays in PNG format using a transparent background, it works beautifully. I mention this since for many of my overlays I have added a slightly larger "blackish" (5,5,5 RGB) border and have stumbled for a while over the subtle difference and being able to clearly separate them. Using a transparent background will make this immensely easier. (Of…See More

"For overlay png files, HexDraw makes black transparent. I don't know where the black to gray cutoff is... good question for Jo, I guess. HexDraw does well for the beginner... ;-)"

"Learning the HexDraw system while trying to make some maps for Valor & Victory. Just need to resolve some issues with transparency and I will post the first one I finish. HexDraw does make it easy."

"Are you talking on the screen or in a printout? I convert the bmp files straight over to pdf in Photoshop and they come out the same quality. If you're printing at a large difference in dpi it might explain the change, but if you export at 400…"

Tips to improve clarity and resolution in maps

I was wondering if anyone had any tips to assist me with my map making endeavors? I find that the exported file may look good, after I convert it into a pdf it's doesn't look as good (even at max dpi). I also find the all-black background sometimes softens the images' edges occasionally; would an expanded border be useful?Any thoughts would be helpful, otherwise I will continue to learn by experimenting.Regards,TimSee More
