A New Gamer in the discovery phase

We got a new co-worker, a Linux guru recently graduated from BYU. Young and interesting to be around, of course I brought up my favorite non work topic.

So, I brought to work three games;

LNL's White Star Rising

3W's Splash One Flatop

And Nova's Handy Rotary Series.

This was the day after he asked saying "those games sound something like Risk".

He is wrapping up a 2 week contract and is now going to a 6 month one, and…

Slouch Hats and Eggshells by Legion Games Finally Opened

I finally opened this game up last night, and took quite few pictures which I have uploaded. The components are really good quality. They put in a little note to say that their counters are easy punched without the need for clipping. We shall see!…

Unboxing #6 Special Ops #2

I've tried to embed the video above. Here is a link to it as well. Video Link Unboxing #6

I'd add this is my first Special Ops that I've seen. Very impressed and happy with the content. Would have liked to have seen more ASL coverage and more coverage of the International games (thanks for bringing…

Westward Expansion

Westward Expansion has come a long way in the last few months. It is pretty unrecognizable from where it began, all for the better. Had several well known designers kick the tires on it at Prezcon and got some excellent feedback. I'm finally going to put a folder up fot it on Consimworld forums which can be reached from here: http://talk.consimworld.com/WebX/.1dd65079/0

Stop by and ask away about the game!

The Russian Campaign

I just picked up a copy of this old favourite of mine on ebay for £16. I'm hoping it will be as good as I remember in the 1980s when I last played it. I tried No Retreat! The Russian Front recently and was seriously underwhelmed by it. I don't think I like the card driven aspect of the game. What do others think of TRC and its ancestors?

Legion by Society of Ancients

This game turned up in the post this morning. It looks really really good. It is a DTP game, so I will have to mount the counters, but the maps are of decent quality and the rule booklet is quite extensive.

I love games of ancients battles, and this was an absolute must

Another game to add the "Playlist"!…

Recording game plays to indicate play balance

I know there is a website that people can record games of Squad leader and/or ASL to show win / losses by scenario. I would like to see something like this for other war games as well. Specifically for The Gamers/MMP SCS titles but not necessarily exclusive to those. Does anyone know of this capability existing somewhere already? If not, would it be desirable and possible to add a function like this to CSW? I am not particularly interested in recording who won/lost but merely generating…

Forlorn Hope - OPS 1 using the additional solitaire rules by FRED22 of BGG

After playing one of the Specific solitaire OPS (Texas Hold'em) and finding it very easy for the Marines to win, I decided the next game would be the first OPS game for 2 players, but playing it using Fred22's additional solitaire rules. His rules give more bite to the Xeno's as it includes the use of the Mutation Cards, Corpse Eating and Xeno Rush.

So, OPS 1 is a mission for the Marines to board the Hope, and retrieve the logs on the MCGFN computer and make a quick exit - in…
