War of the Roses

I've just bought and played 'Richard the Third' by Columbia Games and not only found it to be one of the best looking games that I've seen, but it also gives a great flavour of the changes of alliegences that occured during the 'Roses' period. Although a block game it is parsecs ahead of the early block games by Columbia, easily on a par with GMT. Definately worth a look. I also have 'Pax Baltica' on the Thirty Years War which has similar mechanics.

War of the Roses

I bought a book on the Wars of the Roses, which I hope will compliment and expand the GMT game Blood & Roses.

I have a few other source books on this war, so when I read them, I should be more informed about this whole dynastic war.…

SPI and Avalon Hill Must-Haves!

Out of all of the old SPI/AH games from the 60's, 70's & 80's, what would be your must-haves (or the never sell catagory) in your collection.

These must be games that you would, on occasion still put on the table and play, and still enjoy playing even though they are decades old?

And the next question is, why? What makes them that good you still want to keep and play them?

Joel Toppen is our guest this episode, here to tell us how he designed Navajo Wars, and give us a sneak peek into his next game, covering the Comanches. Joel also provides useful advice on building Vassal modules (he's built dozens himself). Finally, Tom gives some recommendations for solitaire wargames.

Research Through Ospreys

I have a lot of Osprey books, especially from the Campaign Series.  I have so many that one of my bookshelves collapsed under their weight.  But I still buy more, from just about every series except the Men at Arms series.  I have some of them, but the Campaign, Battle Orders, New Vanguard, Duel, and Raid books predominate.  I have some on my Kindle account too, which relieves the stress on my book shelves, and makes them readily available on my iPad and Android smart phone.  But I buy very…
