Forgotten Voices

I read this book a couple of years ago, and it is made up of accounts of of The Great War in the words of the people who were there. These accounts are ones from interviews, letters, and diary entries, and is done in Chronological order.

In my last post, I mentioned about the horrors of war, and how it can be easy to forget this and the enormous casualties when playing our little wargames. However, in this book, there were some really funny entries, which brought a more light hearted…

Harry Patch

Harry Patch, who is no longer with us, was the last survivor of The Great War. When playing these wargames (board and PC), I always cast a thought about all the people who were killed, and how ironic, the battles they fought in, the bitter and dreadful conditions, and the horror of the thousands that died and were injured, and here is me, controlling them like toys, replicating their strategy, but never the true horror of war.…

I have finally got through a couple of games of Nemo's War, a game I bought just before Christmas

And this game is a hoot.

Once i got into the way the game plays, turns are fast and the action is furious. For a game that is a solitaire game, it has a surprising level of strategy to contend…

My interview with Paul Bruno on his History Czar internet talk radio show was put online last night.  I get to talk with him and Producer Millian for about forty-five minutes about wargaming, starting with its basics, and then the design and development process.  That includes the coming Turning Point Simulations line of wargames, and also ConsimWorld gets a mention…

Getting back to gaming

It has been a while since I have played any non-computer wargames, but I have been in the mood lately. In the last couple of years I sold off a lot of my collection due to lack of space and lack of time. I am going to be flying in Mike Lam's B-17 campaign again this week which is always fun. I will probably also play around with the 1st 2 ASL starter kits, Patton's Best, C&C Ancients, and Combat Commander in the near future.

I have been playing a lot more computer wargames lately… Continue

Commander: Europe at War (Matrix Games) - My personal review and verdict

After playing a few turns of the Tutorial, I decided to give the campaign a whirl and to see what this game had to offer. It also has 6 scenarios which are all major operations of WW2, like Barbarossa, D-Dat etc.

You have the choice of playing either the Axis or the Allies, you can change if either side has a handicap or advantage, plus options to include fog of war, random research,  oil consumption and a very interesting idea, where the war does not end in 1945, so you could play…

Trap of "D-DAY(AH,1975)"!

As for this game, an important trap is prepared.

It is not possible to usually advance easily when advance after combat.Because the effect of the combat twice on the defense side etc. is necessary as the condition.

The existence of the HQ of Allied Forces is important as replenishment. If HQ doesn't exist, the supply line from the coast cannot be extended.

And, the combat should determine the risk considerably.
