Passing out.

My son has his Passing Out Parade tomorrow and I am really looking forward to seeing him Pass Out. This marks the end of his phase one training and makes him as a fully trained soldier. He still has further training to do, as he wants to be a battlefield medic, and the training for that lasts 26 weeks, so it will be a while before he gets deployed anywhere

This is a…

Project completed: C&C:A in 6mm

Ever since I bought my first wargames magazine (back in the early 70s), I’ve been fascinated with the idea of converting board wargames to miniature wargames. It was a convergence of influences that prompted me to give this a go with C&C Ancients. First there’s Henry Hyde’s excellent Battlegames Magazine, with plentiful articles on painting 6mm figures; and there was Henry’s blog about playing C&C with miniatures.  Of course, Peter Barry of Baccus 6mm Miniatures also gave me a…

Most Expensive Game

I have seen this question before but I am still curious to see what people say:

What is the most $ you have ever payed for a game?

For me, I think it was for the 4th ed. of The Russian Campaign.  I got it from a brick-and-mortor store shortly after it came out, and IIRC it totalled after taxes to about $120 CDN.  Not a huge amount by todays standards, but that was around 6 years ago or so.  But based on the number of times I have played it, it was worth every…

ESPN2's Feature on La Roche College Basketball and Coach Scott Lang

Last night, during the pre-game show for the NCAA basketball championship, ESPN2 carried this feature on La Roche College's basketball program, and Coach Scott Lang.  I find this well worth watching, and not just because I'm on the La Roche faculty.

Paths of Glory

Had a great first "real" game of Paths of Glory today.  My wife and I tackled it in between running around our kids who have chicken pox.  Some highlights/notes of the session:

  1. The deluxe version that we have (GMT's 2010 reprint with the stiff board) is really nice.  The components are superb.  But... for some weird reason we found a lot of typos and editing errors on the cards.  This seems to be a bit surprising because it's like what, the fifth…

Point 2 Point 45: Julius Caesar, Battleground, and Little Bighorn

In this episode, Jason goes through some feedback, opens the package from Your Move Games, and focuses on a smaller publisher for his pre-order spotlight. He also has some wargaming news, good and bad, and goes through some feedback. Add to this the standard games played, poll results and other fun at the end of the episode, and you get the best two hours in wargaming. Other than gaming itself, of course.

Remember! Still looking for contest entries (contest extended to April…

No Point 2 Point in March??? Oh NO!

Okay, it's not that bad. I have recorded everything, I just haven't had a chance to finish the editing.

So, it will be out by the end of the weekend (April 3 at the latest).

Been crazy busy this month between basketball season for my sons ending, along with winter soccer seasons, and then spring soccer starting up. Add to that some face to face gaming, without which there would be no podcast :), and I haven't had much time to record and even less to…
