Hey everyone -
I'm just wondering what - if anything - people know about the staff wargames we run at the Origins War College, and what it would take for you to come check out one of them and join us for a game?
Players take on roles in a military staff and plan and execute an operation using a wargame... gotta keep up with current situation and changes to the plan while the fight's going on. It's a ton of fun We get a lot of folks coming back year after…

By the time Hannibal settled into winter quarters after his celebrated Cannae campaign, he might have felt in equal measure elated and frustrated. While many cities in tribes in Southern Italy had joined his cause (most notably Italy's second city, Capua), he had failed to secure the vital ports of Campania (most notably Neapolis), nor the strategically important Greek cities further to the south (Tarentum, Rhegium).
Cannae thus hadn't dealt Rome a knock-out blow by having…

Valley Games has now announced a First Punic War expansion to HANNIBAL. I suppose it's basically the variant once featured in THE GENERAL. It's been years, but in checking out that variant, I thought it fell short in two major ways:

It is a bit insulting to Britain’s European neighbors, so for that I do apologise. But if I changed anything, I would be spoiling the creation. So I publish it ‘as is’ but let me add that the views expressed within are not those of the publisher!
The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent terrorist threats and have therefore raised their security level from “Miffed” to “Peeved.” Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to “Irritated” or even “A Bit…

I have just finished playing a complete* game of Bussaco 20 (a Napoleonic wargame), and found it to be a good, quick paced game, which has the added mixture of event cards which can really help or hinder your progress.
The game plays like any other IGOUGO game, but the designer gave it a nice touch by adding a “reaction phase”, which is conducted by the non-phasing player after the phasing player has finished moving. This reaction phase allows the non-phasing players’ cavalry…

Today, I uploaded a new article on Line of Departure Online Features. This one is an unusually scholarly piece, expanded from an essay that I had to write for a graduate historiography class I took at American Military University over the winter,…

I am just thrilled to be the one to post on ConsimWorld that Osama bin Laden is no longer stealing the oxygen of normal people, or otherwise polluting the earth with his vile presence. After ten long years, justice is done.
