Point 2 Point 48: Pseudocon 22 AAR and White Star Rising

He did it! In his ongoing challenge to himself to publish 12 podcasts in 2011, Jason is back on track with his SECOND episode in June (just barely)! In this slightly truncated episode, Chad offers a review of Lock 'n Load's White Star Rising in his (newly named!) segment. Jason gives some wargaming news and responds to some feedback. He then discusses his recent gaming and the surprisingly limited wargaming at Pseudocon this year. He also offers his first impression of Runewars and dodges the… Continue

Jena 20: With backs to the wall, Prussians hold out for a draw

Hooked up for a game of Jena 20 on VASSAL last night. This is a small, tidy quick game published by Victory Point Games. Many of the Napoleonic 20 titles are being consolidated and released by GMT in a nice new format where you get 4 titles in the N20 series per box and GMT quality. Fading Glory is the first such title which I have pre ordered.

My next project: Great Battles of History by GMT Games

Along with trying to learn Advanced Squad Leader one step at a time I will also be learning Great Battles of History starting with the SPQR (The Senate and the Roman people) Deluxe boxed set.

You can find out more information on that here:

http://www.gmtgames.com/c-4-great-battles-of-history.aspx

I will start with a good three part tutorial that GMT Games has on their actual site. You can follow…

Excellent Article on Afghanistan

The National Post in Canada has presented some really remarkable coverage of Afghanistan over the last few years, some of which I've passed along here.  Today, the paper looks back at Canada's long war in the country, as the Canadian combat role comes to an end.  The result is one of the best articles that…

Avalanche Press: Missing a business savior by ignoring social media?

As a once loyal customer that has sold most of my AP games off now I was wondering what the rationale is behind them not allowing people to enjoy games on VASSAL or other types of electronic medium?

This has more than hurt their business than help it as far as I can see. In fact I know of several people I chat with on a regular basis that would buy their products if not for one thing:
Lack of opponents and their stance on allowing the people that might own their…

A busy wargaming weekend consisting of PC, Face to Face and VASSAL

This week has seen a lot of activity for me in the Fighting Formations VASSAL room as I have started two games. However both opponents are overseas and not in the USA so my chances of getting these games finished is slim. Still this is a great game and I am loving playing it on VASSAL

I have started…

Psuedocon is THIS weekend!

Well, for those of you waiting for Episode 48 to come out, good news! I should have more material after this weekend!

Yep, it's time for that invasion of multiplayer gaming goodness that is known as Pseudocon. The few and the proud who have been able to make it to P-con know (and may have been disappointed to learn) that, honestly, it's more about the multiplayer than it is about the wargame. Lots of light gaming, some euros, more hybrids, but very few wargames actually make…

VASSAL Fighting Formations rages on!

^^ Vassal AAR

You can read the majority of this post at the link above since I do not want a lengthy post hogging the front page of ConSim Social. Major steps ahead for me as I learn and make some headway in the game I am playing. I have managed to destroy a good chunk of Soviet armor with well placed STUG shots and my infantry has for the most part rallied…

My first Fighting Formations game is on VASSAL of all places!

http://bluntforcegamer.com/?p=4237

What happened is in the chat room I managed to find a nice wargamer named Shaun from England that had no issue with creating a new game and teaching me how to use VASSAL as well as the basics to the game. Next thing I know we are on turn 3 of scenario zero and I am playing the game quite smoothly.

weapons that never die-katyusha

whenever there is local military action in the arab world,i'm stunned to see the katyusha rocket seen in this photo from about 48 hours ago in Libya.

so the katusha and stg44-a late war model automatic weapon reborn as AK-47 in 1947 are incredibly long lasting designs. what weapons in any of today's "armies" are you suprised to still see in use?

Looks like we lost the B-17 "Liberty Belle" today

http://dailyherald.com/article/20110613/news/706139928/

Based on the markings and the reported owner, it looks like the Liberty Belle. All seven passengers and crew made it off the plane safely, with one passenger hurt. You can always trust a B-17 to bring 'em back. What a loss.

Ambush! by Victory Games

At last i have finally secured a copy of this game. It is one of a few games which I am keen to own, and luckily this copy looks in pretty good condition (going by the image on Ebay).

My search continues for the remaining game on my "to get" list, but at least there is one less now.

One of the nicest guys in the biz....

I just want to mention that while running Commands and Colors ACW games at KublaCon on Memorial Day weekend, designer Richard Borg came by for a couple of hours to help out, chat, and play a couple of games. Richard is a real gentleman, and he definitely gets my vote for one of the nicest people in the wargaming/hobby games business.

For those who are into his games, he told me that the next GMT P500 will be for the C&C: Napoleonic series.... Russians and Austrians.

Outlaws: Adventures in the Old West - Introductory module

Howdy everyone,  I have been asked a few times if an introductory version of Outlaws: Adventures in the Old West could be created – well here it is: a new game board, four new characters and three new scenarios.

Find all you need here:

Download Link

If you later decide to print and play the full game these components can be used to expand the core game.
