It took my about 4-weeks of regular play, dedicating roughly 1-2 hours each night [with a few missed nights], but I finally completed La Bataille de Mont Saint Jean [Battle of Waterloo], using the Marie Louise Rules, and the compiled reports, totalling just over three hours, are now up here:

I'll be among the dozen or so gamers running Command and Colors games at this year's Pacificon in Santa Clara, CA. I'll kick it off with the traditional C&C:N game at 4:00 on Friday using 15mm miniatures and Kallistra Terrain, then Saturday at 1:00 it's C&C:A (using scenarios published in France's Vae Victis) and Sunday I'll be helping with the C&C: Great War. Hope to see you there...

Nemesis is now available from Legion Wargames here
I'm currently in Raleigh NC at my mom's house, visiting for another few days. Last week, I had the privilege of being interviewed by Brant Guillory for his GrogCast podcast on his GrogHeads site, covering disparate topics including my game design work, game development, and how it all overlaps with my college-level teaching. This was all conducted in the gaming area of…Continue

I've spent the past few days reading the exclusive rules; punching, clipping and sorting the counters; and finally, setting up the game.
Now it's time to get started at Clash of Arm's La Bataille de Mont Saint Jean which combines their La Bataille des Quatre Bras and La Bataille de Ligny. I need to spend some time figuring out…Continue

Over the past few weeks, I enjoyed three opportunities to watch small groups of people who were new to board wargaming play Brandywine, a game from the Pub Battles series.
The first of these took place in a workshop designed to improve the teaching skills of US Marines assigned as instructors. The other two were meetings of the…Continue

Just a quick thought.... As I recall there was a game advertisement from the early to mid 70s (S&T?) calling wargames "paper time machines." "Relive the past," or some such promise lived in this full-page ad.
A couple of months ago I managed to convince a fellow worker to give wargames another go; he was a lapsed gamer, having picked up the hobby in his youth (late-70s/early 80s). He left the hobby after college.... work, marriage, kids.... the usual reasons I…Continue

Continuing the Record . . .
I was talking about rulebook on BGG the other day. Constructing a rulebook by the game designer is not easy and it might often be more of a work by the developer. The rules should be carefully constructed and shouldn't expect the players to find them out by implications. One of the joy in wargaming is reading rulebook and finding every questions have been answered by the rulebook itself and need no further clarifications from the game designer.
What was your last rulebook reading that…Continue

As my wife and I discuss retirement, we have considered returning to her roots in Oregon.
How much gaming activity is there in Eugene? Salem?
I've just moved to Alexandria (FC), VA for the year (or maybe two). Anyone interested in getting together for gaming, shoot me a PM. Thanks, Bob
