On November 19, 1941, off the Indian Ocean coast of Australia, the Australian light cruiser HMAS
Sydney approached what its captain, Joseph Burnett, thought was the merchantman
Straat Malakka. He was wrong.
The ship turned out to be the German armed merchant cruiser
Kormoran. When challenged, the
Kormoran fired on the unsuspecting cruiser at close range, probably killing Captain Burnett and all the officers on the bridge with the first salvo. More shells…

I guess since, technically speaking, I'm president (I still don't remember any election), I might as well start a TGC blog, even though we meet at Roger Eastep's house.

Currently playing ASLSK S25: Early Battles on VASL. T1-T3 has been done. I am playing German, and my opponent Russian. Russians had been hit several times with ill-timed high and low DRs. The BT tank was recalled at T2, MA of the KV-2 was malfunctioned at the bottom of 3rd. A HS with MTR was eliminated by rolling 12 on MC. A Crew with INF Gun routed away, abandoning the Gun. On the other hand, German FGs with 20 and 30 FP rolled 2, resulting instantaneous KIAs on Russian SQs, reducing manpower…

Does anyone know how to get in touch with Don Lowry? He and his wife published Campaigns Magazine in the 70s and early 80s, my favorite hobby magazine and (along with Wargamer's Digest) the reason I got into gaming. I'd like to look him up and send him a "thank you" note.

The museum has announced it is five million dollars in debt and will need to sell some of its priceless autos to remain solvent. This museum is a Cleveland institution. It also owns Shandy Hall and Hale Farm and Village where Mr. J and I attended a civil war reenactment this past weekend.
The economy is in the toilet and I suspect donations are way down.…

Here's my first solo run through of OSG's battle of the Hundred Days in living memory - I probably last played it when it first came out thirty years ago, long before the days of the affordable digital cameras!
TURN 1. 14-15 June, 1815
Napoleon starts off map, with three commanders (himself plus Grouchy and Ney) and six corps.
The only manoeuvre units which can appear on the game map itself are leaders:
- Commanders capable of commanding other leaders (in…

Planning my first game of "Fear God & Dread Nought" next Saturday. We're playing the 'Jump Start' scenario, The claim that you'll be up and playing in 30 minutes is laughable. I've spent many hours preparing for this. Looking forward to it though. I'm umpiring the game. prior to the get together we've moved to first contact. Here the HMS Aurora sights the SMS Pillau (in the centre distance) 6.9 nm away.…

Here's a visual from a recent playtesting - by Elias Nordling - of The Astarpa scenario (Hittites vs Azarwans) from CHARIOTS OF FIRE . . . which should be out by early winter. They are playtest map and counters . . . not the ones you'll see in the actual box . . .

An English rule was read because it had been anxious considerably before. By the way, the rule that I am reading is the second edition.
When Japanese was compared with English, it turned out a Japanese rule that the part not considerably translated was a lot of. In honesty and the play of this game, an important objection was lacked.
This game is made even only a tidy Japanese rule is made at the chance to fight though it might not be.

We pulled in on Saturday afternoon. It was great to see old friends already arriving. I sent all of the young'ins off to game after dinner and shopping, and I sat in the lobby and visited with the grown-ups (mostly CABS folks)--talking games and families and whatever else came to mind.
Today was Through the Ages. I played in both heats. The highlights: I like the latest edition. Well...losing to Joe Yaure and Michael Rogozinski (in the first game) and Tedd Mullaly (in the second…
