Point 2 Point 50: WBC 2011 and Conquest of Nerath

Ummm...you missed a spot! Okay, Jason actually missed a whole month! But he is back with his report of WBC 2011, along with his monthly (okay, for the most part) coverage of feedback and the news in wargaming.

And Chad offers a review of a game that takes place in a land that Grimnir himself might enjoy: Conquest of Nerath. …

The Long War: Where Is the End?

Today, Anwar al-Awlaki met his end, thanks to a well-directed Hellfire missile fired from a CIA drone in Yemen.  I'm sure his parents will miss him, but probably not very many outside of the ever-dwindling terrorist community.  This follows the termination of Osama bin Laden in Pakistan this May.

By chance, on Wednesday I was teaching my undergraduate American…

Overkill on the Grossdeutschland?

Now, it's one thing to have a series of games that stretches on for quite a number of years, such as The Gamers'/MMP's Tactical Combat Series family of games on the Grossdeutschland. After all, there was GD '40 nearly two decades ago covering the GD infantry regiment at Stonne in May of 1940. Then there was … Continue

War Plan Red

Over here in the UK, Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 5, there is a program called Revealed, which focuses on War Plan Red, which is an American military strategy to go to war with Britain and it's Commonwealth, which was initially conceived in the 1920's.

I had never heard of this before, and although it is something that is consigned to history, I can't help feel a little shocked and disappointed at this, especially as the American politicians of the time did not take too kindly to Britain…

Risk: Lord of the Rings, Trilogy Edition

Last weekend, a few of us were in the mood for a "mead & pretzel" game and decided on playing Lord of the Rings Risk.  I'm currently working on an AAR video, that I hope to upload in the next few days.  In the meantime, I posted some comments about the game and our initial deployment on my…

Operation Dauntless - P500 by GMT

I have flexed my credit card today as I could not resist the temptation to put an order in for this game. Yet again I have gone for a game which covers an operation that has seldom (if at all) been covered. It all looks pretty good at the moment even though the final art work has yet to be done, and luckily it is not far from reaching the magical 500 pre-order mark (465 since my order).

If I am lucky, it may be ready early next year....maybe......…

On this day...

On this day (3rd of September), 72 years ago, Britain and France declared  war on Nazi Germany. I guess you could say it was the start of the Second World War, even though it was more of a European conflict at this point.

And, 72 years ago tomorrow, would have be my Fathers 21st birthday. He was a Royal Marine serving on HMS Glasgow at the time, which was off the coast of Denmark. For him and everyone else on that ship, the war had started nearly a week before, as they had been…

Slouch Hats & Egg Shells

I have just put in my order for this game today with Legion Wargames, along with 2 other games which are on their Pre-Order list.

Slouch hats should be available reasonably soon, but the other 2 may be a while, but....something to look forward to!!!
