While I posted this blog link to the "Golden Age of Wargaming" blog thread from a few weeks ago, now buried here, this was too good to let slip by. Check out this blog entry
here. The author makes capsule reviews of how the state of art in wargaming has progressed in his discussions of
COMMAND AND COLORS: ANCIENTS, MEMOIR '44, and--most glowingly--
CONFLICT OF HEROES. Definitely worth reading in its entirety.

In the nineteen thirties, Winston Churchill was a voice in the wilderness, speaking out against the rise of Nazi Germany. Today, I am very much like Churchill, warning anyone who crosses my path of the imminent danger faced by America today. Not just America, but the entire human species.
We are threatened by our own dead. You see, sometimes they reanimate. And when they do, they are always hungry for fresh, salty, warm, human brains.
Do not call me insane. I have never been…

It may be obvious, but the Internet has certainly been a large factor in the current success (or continued existence) of the wargaming hobby. (It's been a big part in the resurgence of board-gaming as well, but that's not the point of this post.)
We are in a "Golden Age" of war-gaming. The Grognards among us look back at the late 70's when SPI was an active company as an important time in the hobby, but I suspect more war-games are being published today by more companies than we could…

The Strategic Review has been done by these 2 muppets, and it is more like a cost cutting exercise.
The 2 most ridiculous plans they have made is to scrap the Harrier and to cancel the new Nimrod spyplane immediately.
There are some things they plan which are understandable, but the Harrier and Nimrod - they must have had their heads up each others arses when they came up with that idea!…

Recently I got involved in a discussion between SPI's
BATTLE FOR STALINGRAD by John Hill and AH's
TURNING POINT: STALINGRAD by Don Greenwood. I was a playtester for the latter and can be fairly accused of bias, but I really did prefer that game to Hill's effort for SPI. That said, I was also involved in L2's…

WOW!
Conflict of heroes is a squad level light tactical game. It seems more focused on small firefights of less than company size.
So, I’m going to do a comprehensive review of it after some honest play time.
Have you ever opened a game-box and expected at best the norm? As a cardboard warrior as I, I have come to expect the usual deflating letdown after opening a game box. But with Conflict of heroes that was NOT the case. First glance was a “wow” moment for me.…
