Greco-Persian War

Does anybody know of any games that deal with the Greco-Persian War from a strategic standpoint. The upcoming Hoplite of GMT's GBOH system will deal with some of the battles. I know there are other games that deal with tactical battles from that war but are there any games dealing with the overall war?

Christmas Eve Clipping

Spending Christmas Eve morning clipping counters. Does this say good or bad things about me?

Command and Colors: Ancients

Put CC:A on the table with my 11 year old son. We were learning the system so it was a slow go. Interesting and simple system.

MMP's The Blitzkrieg Legend

Finally got the game punched and clipped. This game from the Operational Combat Series covers the German blitzkrieg of France. I have put the Holland scenario on the table and am trying to make a go of it.

Forged in Fire

I had the opportunity to play Forged in Fire on Friday with my friend Doug. Forged in Fire is a block game by Worthington Games covering the peninsula campaign of the American Civil War. This is not an easy campaign to model because of a variety of factors but Forged in Fire does it well and in a very playable manner. The rule book is relatively small but the game has great…

Punching Guderian's Blitzkrieg II - UPDATED

Punching Task Complete. Now to play the game. Setting it up now.

After admiring the box for almost a year, I finally got down to punching out the counters for GBII. These are only the Soviet counters. …

Quick, Dirty, (Ugly), and Functional Dice Tower

I needed a dice tower quickly for a face-to-face session tomorrow. Being cheap, I didn't want to spend $15-20 and order one online. Also, I didn't want to spend several hours in a woodworking shop. I put this dice tower together in about 30 minutes using only a box, pocket knife, and glue. I didn't even measure the pieces (which is obvious upon close inspection). Everything was eyeballed. I post this to show how easily it can be done with common things you have around the house. If you are…

2012 Wargame Resolutions

I have a few resolutions regarding my gaming for 2012. I thought I'd share them and let others add their resolutions if they would like.

Do more solitaire gaming

Due to the fact that I've made some good FtF friends over the past year plus the fact that I have been an active vassal wargamer, I've done less solitary gaming over the past year. I'd like to get back to more of that while remaining an active FtF and vassal player. To that end I have purchased some…

GMT's 1805 Game Report

I had the opportunity today to play GMT's 2009 game 1805:Sea of Glory with my gaming friend Clyde Hayman. Clyde is not only an experienced gamer but also a Vietnam veteran who was a radar intercept officer in F105 Wild Weasels and also in F4s and F111s. He's a patriot and a great guy.…

Wargaming with the Kids

Playing World at War with my 7 year old. Okay, the rules we used were a little simplified but my kids enjoy it and it introduces them to the world of wargaming that their Daddy loves. [Picture included]

Hearts and Minds

I'm looking into "Hearts and Minds" by Worthington Games. Generally the reviews I have read have been quite positive. It is area movement, which I have never played before. I'd be interested in some of your opinions of the game. Thanks in advance.

Great Service

I just wanted to give kudos to Michael Dean of Fine Games out of North Bend, OR. I just did business with them and, in addition to their good prices, Michael gave prompt, courteous and personal service. Not only that, he shipped the product really quickly. So, thanks a lot Michael. Keep up the good work and Merry Christmas.

Red Star Rising: Barbarossa Update

I'm entering turn 8 (of 12 for this scenario). The Germans suffered in turn 7 (mud turn) from lack of air support. Turn 8 begins the winter turns. The Russians have suffered terrible losses as is seen by the stacks of removed units.

However, Soviet reinforcements seem almost endless and even removed units can come back. In the next photo we see the stabilized lines on the approach to Moscow. The Germans have the advantage in striking power… Continue

Hoping to try "A Victory Denied" tonight

I've had it for a few days but have not gotten down to playing it. Reviews have been good. I'm looking forward to it.
