Soviet airborne attack preceeds thrust against Nurnberg.

FRANKFURT--The early morning sky over German was blotted out today over Augsburg and Munchen by thousands of Soviet parachutes as at least nine combat brigades were dropped around those cities on West Germany's southern frontier.

The airborne assault was cordinated with Soviet attacks around Nurnberg. The American defenders guarding the city have been stubborn, but there are scattered reports of Soviet chemical attacks punching… Continue

Soviet reinforcements mass in Fulda Gap; Berlin defenders destroyed

FRANKFORT--A Soviet-led Warsaw Pact attack on West German and Berlin continued yesterday, with Soviets massing reinforcements around Fulda, while expanding their gains in other sectors.

In Berlin, the French, British and American forces stationed to defend that city have been all but wiped out, cut down in a huge artillary barrage accompanied by attacks from both East German and Soviet divisions, backed by helicoptor… Continue

My kingdom for some plexi!

I need plexi. A lot of plexi.

A lot of plexi.

Now I've bought the usual piece of plexi from Lowes to cover a mapsheet or two.

But this is a 9 by 7 table. What would be great is two sheets - one 7 by 4, one 7 by 5.

Who's got a good idea ...?

How I spent my Sunday ...

War in Europe was under the Christmas tree this year .... but I've needed a table big enough to hold all nine maps!

Now - if only I could talk someone into driving to Fredericksburg once a week for the next two or three years ...…

Soviet surprise attack catches NATO off guard

FRANKFURT--Soviet-led armored Warsaw Pact columns have advanced across the West German border in a broad assault from Hamburg in the north to the American-held Fulda gap just east of Frankfurt.

The surprise attack was preceeded by a massive air battle, as wave after wave of Warsaw Pact Mig-21 fought for control of the skies over northern and central Germany.

In the town of Fulda, a small border hamlet guarded by the… Continue

To clip or not to clip: The final battle

Several hours of quality television, 2400 counters and 9600 corners later .... I present to you one punched AND clipped copy of SPI's The Next War.

It's destined for a tabletop in Beaverdam, Va., tomorrow afternoon. Didn't have a choice but to stay up late tonight and finish.

(Oh - and using the boxtop to catch all the clipped corners went a long ways towards keeping the wife… Continue

To clip or not to clip, part II: Gettin' clippy with it ...

I'm what you would call "impulsive". It's why I can't got to a convention and not buy a game, and also why my kill stacks of Panzers often wander away from their objectives, marching off to certain doom.

It also means once I get a bug up my ass, I'm likely to act on it.

So here's a picture of the jig I made by taking a dremel to the corner of an old CD case (stole the idea off BGG - thanks to the person that mentioned that here!).

Notice some of my clipped US… Continue

To clip, or not to clip. That is the question

Rick Young was gracious enough to teach his fabulous new Bulge game to a few of us on Thursday night at PrezCon.

As we're setting the game up, noted scoundrel Bryan Collars mentioned he had gone so far as to even clip the corners of the stickers attached to blocks to represent the major combat elements in Rick's game.

Clipping is a chore I've been fascinated with, but never embarked on ... mostly because I'm terrified to take a set of nail clippers to a game I just dropped… Continue
