Snippits from the game rules

Hi All,

Folks are missing a great game opportunity, so I decided to paste some of the rules here, in a serial kind of blog, and work through all nine manuals. Interested people can get the full rules, all manuals, at the game web site. We want more players, nuff said.

A CALL TO ARMS

WW2 The Big One needs 20 players as the war just expanded. May 1940 and Italy just joined Germany by invading France.  That opens up the Med Sea Front.

We don't have enough people to fill all the roles.

Strategic, Operational, Tactical, Espionage, Army, Navy, Air

Decision-making roles… Continue

If I write it, will they read it?

Recently I've been pondering actually publishing the rules of my game WW2 The Big One. There are nine manuals plus additional material and enough of that to equal a tenth. The current method of delivery is in the form of MS Word documents. It occurred to me that this work deserves to live beyond the playing of the game.

Thirty years of work has gone into this project, writing and revising. That is four or five complete re-writes as new ideas and concepts come up. I think the finished… Continue

Recruiting players for WW2

WW2 is starting again. We need Tactical Level players. Those are Lt. Generals in the army, Squadron Leaders in the air, and Captains at sea. TAC players handle all combat in the game via email.

The new game is starting this month, August 2010, so contact me soon.

This is not just a Tactical game. You can earn promotions to Operational and even Strategic Levels as the war progresses.

A suicide in Germany !

Well, I was surprised!

The player who was General of the Army, Operational Level, for Germany has just emailed me saying that he must commit suicide and leave the game! This was his reaction to the news that his units in the Low Countries were cut off from supply. They would not be permitted to attack, but could move.

Embarrassing? Yes, but not worth throwing in the towel for. This is a complex game, no question. I have been telling players for a while now that the team that… Continue

How much time?

How much time does it take? Less time than you probably play your video games. You won't get email every day, only when you/your role is involved. Even better, you can play this game anywhere that you have access to your email.

There are no deadlines. The 11-day game turn is really about date change and measuring production times for new units. It doesn't require players to finish what they are doing as battles can span turns.

This is a thinking man's game. You will probably… Continue
