Halls of Montezuma (GMT):The Americans controlled a couple of Mexican states, won most of the battles, and came very close to collapsing the Mexican government by Turn 7.  But was not able to push the Mexican Political Will far enough down so when the game ended early by random die roll at the end of Turn 7, it was a Mexican victory!  Learned that the US player must really push hard (harder!) to win. This is *not* an easy game to learn, a lot of rules - but it's worth it. A lot of historical flavor in the cards, the map, the units, leaders, etc. A great story. Made me want to pick up a historical book on the Mexican War to learn more about it. that tells you something about the game. A lot of work to learn, but fun!

End of game map - Celles by Revolution Games.  I bought this at CSW Expo because my dad's unit (84th Infantry Division) appears in the game. Volume 1 (and only, so far) of a Battle of the Bulge series of games. An interesting chit-pull system, lots of uncertainty, and some unique rules twists. We played on Vassal and had a fun time with it. The US won this one 17-13, with some fortunate die rolls and timely chit draws.

Those factory fires were indeed unfortunate.

4 - Player Wings for the Baron (VPG) with the Group. Pretty close, Germany lost the war, but both Allies and German morale hit "0" the same turn. Fokker came from behind to win with the most $ and the best fighter design. Roland came in 2nd, hampered by two mysterious factory losses to fire!

This past Saturday our group played "Spheres of Influence" by Little Nuke Games.  The East Asia faction came from behind to win, dominating Japan, China, Russia and India. A quick-playing world war game in a Euro format.

Finished World War I (S&T 294). There's a lot more to this updated game than the older 1975 original.  Takes a while to play, but by the end of 1917 we agreed it would pretty much end with an "Exhaustive Victory" for the Allies.  That's WWI for you. The Brits overran the Middle East, the Ottomans were teetering on surrender, Russia was ready to collapse and the Limeys landed a tank army in the Balkans. Italy stayed neutral! Pretty good experience!

2017 CSW Expo:

Played Fall of the Third Reich a couple of times. Trying to figure out why the Allies always seem to be able to bring down the Reich (above) before 1945. Also a Blue Cross White Ensign battle. About four Wing Leader scenarios. And a couple Villiainous Vikings! I actually shot down five guys in Down in Flames. Bought Horse & Musket and won a copy of Battle of the Atlantic  (solitaire) as a quarter-finalist in the Strike Force tournament. Finally, my two room mates and I all won breakfast door prizes on the same day! Mine was Gem Rush - which we also actually played. Fun time.

Four-player Genesis. We didn't have time to finish the final turn, but when we had to break it up, the Hittites were barely hanging on to the lead by a point, after surviving assaults from the Egyptian-Babylonian alliance. Plagues, greedy priests, rebellions, good time!

The end of Gauntlet, from S&T 190. The Chicoms didn't make it to Pyong'yang, but got close. Pretty much outflanked the UN on the right. A hard-fought draw.

Another blast from the past. Our group played Junta from 1985. Remember how much fun we had with that one in the '80's.
