My mistake, the battle comment posted on Nov. 5 was Granicus, not Gaugamela!  Sorry for the mixup.

Our Thursday afternoon wrap-up of Gaugamela from Great Battles of Alexander. The Macedonians barely eked out a win, as their phalanxes made the mistake of crossing the river, mostly getting wiped out by swarms of Persian cavalry.

The Saturday group played an interesting Euro-game from Giochix called Historia.

Take your civilization from the Stone Age through the internet age and beyond. Build up your technology and military capability, trade, raid, create Wonders, make War, all kinds of actions. Played 3 humans and 3 "Bots" - the Bots pretty much ruled the humans. We need more practice!

End of Battle of Towton - GMT's Blood & Roses. Norfolk's heavy cavalry breaks the Lancastrians. Yorkist player almost gave up on getting Continuations, but hung in there for the victory.

Played a little Air War DG game, Cactus Air Force. Plays quick, cool airplane counters,  System is like a mini-Luftwaffe. Japanese victory by 1 VP.

Two games on Thursdays relating to 15th century Venice,  trading and conflict in the Mediterranean: Serenissima and Venetia. Venetia has a lot of choices and takes a little longer but Serenissima has little plastic galleys to sail around. Both fun & interesting.

The Saturday group played a one-year turn of Wellington, GMT’s peninsular campaign game. Just took us a while to re-learn the rules. It was looking bad for the French by the end of the afternoon, though.

Our Thursday afternoon play of Revolution Games' Konigsberg (1945), works good with 3 players. Each German corps/Russian Army is activated by a random chit-pull, creating uncertainty and tension  Although many German units were destroyed and much German territory was lost, the Russians only claimed 3 VPS for a Major German Victory. Below is the furthest advance by 2nd Belorussian Front at game end..

Taught the Group the basic Dogfight game for Wild Blue Yonder (Down in Flames WWII). Played a practice round + 2 4-player dogfights. Not everybody loves the card game aspect, but I hope to try it again and gain some converts from the Group.

2nd St. Albans (Blood & Roses) - A Yorkist victory against overwhelming Lancastrian odds, by smart usage of the "Pass" option and a skillful defensive fight.
