I implemented further tweaks with v2.2. I included more territory to the East so as to ensure Astrakhan abutts Persia. This allows Russia to gain further leverage on Persia (the new Caspian Sea also provides for yet another way of getting Russian units into action down there).


Persia strikes me as the minor power most likely to be conquered last. After all, neither Russia or Turkey will want the other to conquer it and will be mindful of keeping the neutral in being unless of course they can conquer it themselves and thus gain a leg up on their rival.

Really, I think either power can only gain it if the other is distracted, weakened or plain incompetent as otherwise that player will want to prop up the Shah rather than seeing that critical position being lost to a then very dangerous enemy. One's backdoor would then be wide open! Not a pleasant prospect.

Brian, this variant of mine is really best played via email as you need a GM to work out the orders given by secret diplomatic points (as discussed in a previous post).

For me, Diplomacy is all about negotiations. A two-player variant (there are a few) removes that crucial component. Much as no_press diplomacy does. Both kinda suck out all what I enjoy about Diplomacy, but I appreciate that other players also enjoy a pure tactical exercise.

Looks and sounds interesting. I enjoy Dip. It's often difficult finding 4 players, not the 7 that's needed for a full game. Last game Dip I was Russia and had a great Turkish player until, he was convinced to backstab me, as we were close to having joined victory conditions. I forced Germany out of the game, only to have the wrold attack Russia.

Maybe when your finished designing 1648 version we can play on an eboard, or somthing similiar. I designed ( others are out there I'm sure ) Dip:1914 for two players, but alas, never got to play test it.
