I finally played Command and Colors Ancients. I was wrong with me not playing this before....it took playing Memoir '44 to change my mind. Played the battle of Cissa in 218 BC from C3i from 2008 as my intro game - what a hoot. Started out with a 3 to 0 lead on the Romans due to some dumbness on my part but rallied and won at the end going away 6-3.

CC:A left me cold for a long time too...but it's quick and fun and reflects basic troop differences suprisingly well. I've had a couple of Epic games with 6 and 8 players and that makes it even more enoyable...the only reason I haven't purchased it is due to the number of gamers I know who have it...works like a treat on Vassal too!

CC:A and MEMOIR '44 just leave me cold, although I can well understand why others like it.  What's troublesome for me is that I have a hard time articulating just what it is that leaves me so uninterested.  It's not that I hate the games; it's just that I don't like them.  But the idea that you can do multiple battles on the same playing surface with moveable terrain (especially MEMOIR '44), have limited intelligence (CC:A and its ilk), and get through a session quickly is a big draw.  Best of all, these games are perfect for bringing in new players and transitioning them to the more "serious" conflict simulations.

Well, at least this means I am not spending all my money on CC:A, COMMAND AND COLORS: NAPOLEONICS, MEMOIR '44 and its expansions, and the other games that are so much like this (e.g., Worthington's HOLD THE LINE and its expansion)!
