For now, my project cover only modern era, but it is possible to do somes new games with the same engine...
The only actual limit of a map is the memory size of the computer....for now, a map of 200/200 hexes work well....but the game engine is not finished...

very interesting. I would like to see it handle American civil war as well.
How big of a map will it be able to do? _hexes x _hexes?

Here are some additional information ... My intention is to develop a game engine with which it will be possible to recreate any modern conflict historical or imaginary. The game system is based on command points .... Every command HQ in the game will spend a number of command and supply points to run its operations ... for example: Quick Attack, planned attack,Hastly defense , planned defense, rallying ect ..... Each camp will give him at the same time, then follow a phase of resolution orders, display of results for each of combat engagement ...

The game will take account of the naval , air and land forces...
There will be a unit editor, a map editor , scenarios and event editor.
Sorry for my English, but I speak French

Thank you for your comments, I use C # and VB.net with Visual Studio 2005, and Xna (DirectX) the game will be available only for Windows.
All the graphics are done in Photoshop CS3. There is a transition between each type of terrain.
Yes, I intend to include a IA and a scenario editor, OB, and units ...
It is indeed a system planning-execution but in turn, not in real time.
But it can still change, everything will depend on the direction that the game will take ...
I will post soon further information about my project, as well as new screenshots....
