Never mind. I'll work with the program some more to see if I can get what I want.

I would like, however, to be able to draw lines and other objects without having them snap to the centers of the hexes. I want to draw boundary lines that divide set up areas, and I want them to run between hex columns.

mabye Chris can post an example.
I can put the numbers everywhere but I can not rotate the map or remove the first column
without a huge amount of work...

I suppose what Chris is asking for is to run the numbers 1001, 1101, 1201, etc across the top of a map like this...

...of course, I've never seen a map done that way.

you like to have the Number vertical in the left corner of the hex, starting in the lower left corner ?
am I right ?

It's not quite what I'm looking for, Jo. Currently, HexDraw requires that all hex maps be configured with the hexsides along the top of the screen, and the hex numbering starting from the first hex in the top left. If I want to draw a map with the hex points "up," I know I can just draw the map "sideways," but I cannot make the hex numbering right, no matter what the starting row/column settings are.

you can do this by setting the 'Starting Column' and/or 'Starting Row' to Values = -1
Then you can remove the first column by cutting the final bitmap. Ok, it is not very elegant.

New in Version 1.1 you can have negative values in 'Distance to Hexside'. This allows to place the Hexnumbers at the bottom of the Hex.
I send you the testversion.

Will user be able to play around more with the hex orientation and stagger of the first column (and maybe the numbering)? I'd like to be able to recreate printed maps, and often the orientation differs from the HexDraw default.

When it fails to load it did not make an error file. It all works now, so no problem... Thanks Jo!

Greg found a Bug when Hexdraw 1.1 is loading mapfiles (*.hm) from version 1.0
I found and fixed this bug ! I send you the new fixed version via mail.
The exe file is named Hexdraw11.exe . So it could be place in your Hexdraw Folder.
Pleace save backups from 1.0 maps because version 1.0 will not load 1.1 maps.
When you find another error (I hope not ) please send me the file 'fehler.txt' you posibly find
in your hexdraw folder.

Thanks. I in turn sent you some questions. I'll wait to install 1.1 until I hear from you.
